As a follow-up to our earlier post on this subject, here are some summary pictures from the presentation at our Delmont Visionary Committee meeting by our recent guest speaker, Jenn Weir. In an excellent presentation, Jenn briefed us on plans for the Rock Springs Roller Rink, which is already being renovated and restored. Jenn is helping with PR, Marketing, and Events for the Roller Rink. The pictures include all of her slides. Sorry for the somewhat short notice, but the Delmont Visionary Committee meeting tonight will feature a guest speaker on a subject that may be of interest. Many residents of Delmont and the surrounding area have fond memories of the Rock Springs Roller Rink. Now it is being restored. Our guest speaker, Jenn Weir, will brief us on the plans and status of the soon to be renovated Rock Springs Roller Rink project. Jenn is helping with PR, Marketing, and Events for the Roller Rink. The meeting will be at 7PM tonight (Tuesday, 8/11) in the meeting room at the Delmont Library. All are welcome. You don't have to be a member to attend.

A procession in Delmont is set for a World War II veteran from Slickville whose remains have been returned to the U.S. to be buried in his home county on Aug. 3. Staff Sgt. Stephen A. Fatur of Slickville was a 19-year-old tail gunner on a B-17G Flying Fortress on a bombing mission near Glinica, Poland, on March 22, 1945, when it was shot down by German fighter planes. Earlier this year, Fatur’s remains were discovered and positively identified in Poland, and have been returned to the U.S.

There will be an Aug. 2 memorial for Fatur at Bash-Nied Funeral Home in Delmont. Mayor Dave Weber said he hopes borough residents will line the streets on Aug. 3 for a procession that will take Fatur’s remains to their final resting place in Twin Valley Memorial Park on Athena Drive. Mayor Weber said he hopes residents will show up along Greensburg Street, Freeport Street and Athena Drive around 10:15 a.m. as the funeral procession heads to the cemetery at about 10:30 a.m. Fatur will then be interred with full military honors, the mayor said. American flags are available and will be passed out along the streets. (Excerpted in part from Triblive.com)

Looking for a good family experience? Come to Delmont Daze on August 1. There will be something for people of all ages - games, vendors, a magician and more. Plus, the popular Jeep Parade is back. Now that's something you don't see every day! And don't forget to stop to see us at the Visionary Committee. We'll be there too! The parklet is on Greensburg Street, in the heart of Delmont.

Hey, I'm, planning to come to the Open House Tuesday night to learn about the Delmont Trail, how about you? The Open House starts at 7PM at the Delmont Library. I want to learn all about the trail building process, what a feasibility study is, what the goals of the project are, and I want to get answers to frequently asked questions and find out other things too. Why not get on your Big Wheel and come too?

Here's a reminder of the trail-focused Open House coming up next Tuesday, July 14, from 7 till 8:30 PM at the Delmont Library. You may want to note that there will be a series of brief presentations beginning at 7:15 to help everyone get caught up on the very latest information. After a brief welcome, we will talk about the role of the all-volunteer Delmont Visionary Committee in the project. That will be followed by a brief discussion about our Feasibility Study, what it is and why it is required. Next, we’ll update everyone on the Westmoreland Heritage Trail (WHT) Middle Gap Connection. That connection will bridge the gap between the two parts of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in our area. As a result, when our trail is connected, we will have access to a much larger network of trails and WHT trail users will have an easy and safe way to visit our town. Then we will talk about the results of the survey we conducted recently via Facebook. Interesting, by the way. Finally, the rest of the evening will be open discussion, question and answers, and the like. Come whenever you like and stay as long as you like. It will be friendly and informal, and we hope to see you there!

Have you been wondering what the next steps will be and what the timeline might look like? In fact, how does the process even work? Here's your chance to learn more, to ask questions and to meet some of the people who have been working on the project. It's at the Delmont Library, it's free, and we've added an extra half hour to give lots of time for questions, discussion and personal interaction. Come on down! The Library is located at 75 School Street and parking is both ample and free.
