Face Painting.... Hair Braiding.... Free Tote Bags. OH MY!

Here's the latest about our booth at the Apple n'Arts Festival this year. First of all, Face Painting which was so popular last year is back again! And we have some new treats too. For the first time we will offer hair braiding (available for a donation) and we will be offering free tote bags while the supply lasts. Now that can be handy at any festival! Be sure to get yours.

The festival is this Saturday October 3 from 10AM until 6PM and Sunday from 11AM till 5PM. Stop by, say hello and chat for a bit. We're always glad to see ya'

Correction: If you were considering helping us with face painting at the Apple 'n Arts Festival, please note that we typically organize around 2-hour shifts, not 4. However, as always, any time you could give would be appreciated. Just let us know and we will contact you to make arrangements.

Help Wanted! We are in need of volunteers to do Face Painting in our booth at the Apple ‘n Arts festival. Here’s a chance to help us raise the necessary money to support our various community-oriented projects and to have fun while doing it. No minimum amount of time is required although we like to plan 2-hour shifts when possible But we’ll gratefully take whatever time you can give! The festival will be at Shield’s Farm in Delmont Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 4th, 2026, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have talent in this area and would be willing to help us at the festival, please let us know by commenting on this post, by sending an email to [email protected] or by sending us a direct message. We are pleased to announce the winner of our recent gift card fundraiser. Lisa B. had the lucky number which was 715. We sold all 250 tickets during this fund raiser and the total value of the gift cards prize was over $1700 in goods and services. Congratulations to Lisa!

September is Hunger Action Month. At the next meeting of the Delmont Visionary Committee (Tuesday, Sept. 8, 7 PM at the Delmont Library) we will be collecting items for the Westmoreland Food Bank. You can drop off your non-perishable items with us, and if your time permits, stay for our one-hour meeting to meet some nice people and learn about all the thing we are up to. We always welcome guests!

(The following article has appeared in Rep. Jill Cooper's latest Capital Report newsletter. We recognized Adam's excellent Special Olympics achievements earlier, but are pleased to add that he has received more honors. Congratulation to Adam and his parents!)

Westmoreland County has a gold medal Special Olympian champion! Congratulations to Delmont's Adam Wittman on an extraordinary performance at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota this past June. As Westmoreland County's only representative, Adam proudly brought home a gold medal in the men's 100-meter walk, finishing with an impressive time of 39.09 seconds. Adam also earned a silver medal in the mini-javelin, recording a throw of 7.44 meters. His journey to the national stage began at the 2024 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games at Penn State University, where he won gold and qualified for the U.S. Games. I was honored to present Adam with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives during the Westmoreland County Commissioners’ meeting in recognition of these outstanding accomplishments. Congratulations, Adam, on your incredible achievements and for representing Westmoreland County with pride on the national stage! Thank you to his parents, Cindy and Lenny, for raising such a compassionate young man!

As a follow-up to our earlier post on this subject, here are some summary pictures from the presentation at our Delmont Visionary Committee meeting by our recent guest speaker, Jenn Weir. In an excellent presentation, Jenn briefed us on plans for the Rock Springs Roller Rink, which is already being renovated and restored. Jenn is helping with PR, Marketing, and Events for the Roller Rink. The pictures include all of her slides. Sorry for the somewhat short notice, but the Delmont Visionary Committee meeting tonight will feature a guest speaker on a subject that may be of interest. Many residents of Delmont and the surrounding area have fond memories of the Rock Springs Roller Rink. Now it is being restored. Our guest speaker, Jenn Weir, will brief us on the plans and status of the soon to be renovated Rock Springs Roller Rink project. Jenn is helping with PR, Marketing, and Events for the Roller Rink. The meeting will be at 7PM tonight (Tuesday, 8/11) in the meeting room at the Delmont Library. All are welcome. You don't have to be a member to attend.
