Centennial Valley Association

Centennial Valley Association CVA is the only local organization in the valley that works on projects with landowners, agencies, and nonprofits as a team.

We strive to preserve traditional ranching as a way of life, and to maintain quality open space, habitat, water quality, and migration corridors as they exist today for future generations. The Centennial Valley Association (CVA) creates opportunities and rallies landowners, agencies, and community members to sustain agriculture and conservation by providing a community forum to lead collaboration.

We are partnered with the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, The Nature Conservancy, and other agencies to mitigate predator-livestock and human conflicts, manage invasive w**d species and establish native flora, provide water and drought awareness, and be the main disseminator of information in the valley and surrounding landscapes to maintain the Centennial Valley as it is today for future generations.

Rush Skeletonw**d, a Priority 1B species in Montana was found in Beaverhead County this past summer in multiple locations. Thankfully, locations were of single plants. To learn more about the species, please attend the informational meeting on Thursday, December 4th. This is not a species we want, as it is highly invasive and detrimental to our rangelands!

We hope to see you there!

The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission on Thursday approved an emergency fishing closure for a portion of Red Rock Creek to protect one of the last aboriginal Arctic grayling populations in Montana.

The year-round angling closure extends from Upper Red Rock Lake to Elk Lake Road. Fishing upstream of Elk Lake Road using artificial lures remains open except for an existing seasonal closure from May 1 through June 14.

The angling closure will protect grayling seeking refuge from harsh summer conditions in Upper Red Rock Lake and is a key part of a large-scale, collaborative effort between FWP, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and other partners to increase the spawning population to ensure this remnant aboriginal grayling population remains on the landscape.

Curious about snowpack? While much of the state received quite a bit of snow late last week/early this week, we are still in need of more snowy weather. The percent median snow water equivalent (SWE) at the end of the day on February 17th was 91% for Jefferson Basin and 88% for Red Rock subbasin. Last year, on February 17th, SWE was 74% for Jefferson Basin and 81% for Red Rock subbasin. SWE levels are better than they were last year at this time, but let’s continue to hope for more snow!
