Wow—what a week at Ohio Wesleyan University! 🚀

From October 23–25, Kickstart Ohio and the U.S. Entrepreneur Competition (USEC) turned campus into a launchpad for bold ideas, gritty founders, and real momentum. Dozens of pitches, packed rooms, and nonstop energy—this is what building an entrepreneurial future looks like.

We’re proud that OWU and the Delaware Entrepreneurial Center are leading the way in developing founders across Ohio—connecting students, alumni, and community builders with mentors, capital, and the playbooks that create wins. And yes… hearing from Silicon Valley legend Steve Wozniak was the perfect spark. 🔥 His insights on creativity, courage, and building things that matter inspired every single person in the room.

Today, Ohio Wesleyan University celebrated a truly groundbreaking moment.

With $15 MILLION in new donor commitments, OWU is creating two pioneering academic centers inside the new John F. Milligan Library:

📌 The Smith Center for Faculty Excellence
📌 The Palmer Center for First-Generation Student Success

During a groundbreaking ceremony for the John F. Milligan Library, President Matt VandenBerg shared: "Ohio Wesleyan is pushing what's possible in U.S. higher education and creating bold new blueprints for faculty and student development. This prominent location underscores our belief that student achievement and faculty flourishing are inseparable."

These transformational gifts, were made possible through the generosity of Katherine Boles Smith ’71 and her husband, Alton Smith, and Thomas Palmer ’69 and his wife, Susan Palmer H’23. Combined with the $50 million Milligan Library renovation—including a $20 million lead gift from John and Kathryn Milligan ’83—these investments reflect OWU’s bold vision to reimagine higher education where faculty flourish and students thrive.
