Secane man convicted on all charges in ethnic intimidation case.

Today, the Delaware County Black Caucus celebrates an important victory for justice, accountability, and the power of community advocacy.

John Romano of J & P Fencing has been convicted on all charges stemming from his racist threats, intimidation, and treatment of a Black woman in our community.

His conviction includes ethnic intimidation and terroristic threats. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.

From the beginning, we refused to sit idly by and wait to see whether something would be done. We spoke up. We showed up. We stayed with it.

The Delaware County Black Caucus stood publicly against Romano's actions. We organized and participated in a press conference. We showed up at Darby Township council meetings. We met with fire chiefs and leadership throughout the area. We spoke alongside County Council members. We called for Romano's removal and demanded accountability.

We did not allow this matter to quietly disappear.

That is advocacy. That is community. That is the power of our collective voice!!

Today's conviction does not erase what happened to the woman who endured this hateful encounter, nor does it end the work before us. It does, however, affirm something we deeply believe: when injustice confronts our community, silence cannot be our response.

We thank every community member, elected official, public servant, advocate, and partner who stood with us and helped keep the call for accountability before the public.

Sentencing is the next step, and we will continue to show up.

The Delaware County Black Caucus stands unequivocally with Sheriff Siddiq Kamara after a voicemail surfaced containing racial slurs, attacks on his faith, and explicit threats of physical harm, including knowledge of his whereabouts.

This is not just an attack on one man. It is an attack on every Black resident of Delco who has ever raised their hand to lead. We commend the Sheriff’s Office for handling this with transparency and referring it to an active criminal investigation, which we trust to run its course.

Delaware County’s Black communities don’t always agree on policy or politics, but we are united in rejecting racial violence and intimidation against any of our own, without exception.

We call on elected officials, faith leaders, and civic organizations across this county to join us, plainly and without hedging.
