Our mission is to engage in community revitalization, preserve Fort DuPont’s resources, and community.

Help shape the future of the Fort DuPont Theater! Friends of Fort DuPont is gathering community input to help guide the restoration and future use of this important historic building. We want to hear what kinds of performances and events would bring you to the theater, and what features and amenities would make your visit welcoming and enjoyable.

Your feedback will help inform future programming, visitor experience, comfort and accessibility priorities, and opportunities to celebrate Fort DuPont’s history and local culture.

We're so grateful that so many families joined us for the 2nd annual living history event at Fort DuPont!❤️ It was wonderful to see so many families on the parade ground enjoying the music, living history displays, and the flyover ✈️ by a local historical aviation group out of Wilmington airport. Thank you again to everyone who visited and the historians that brought the campus back to life; we couldn't have asked for a better day!

Did you know Fort DuPont’s story began in the 1860s? Long before the historic buildings we know today, this land was part of the defense of the Delaware River during the Civil War.

The Ten Gun Battery was established here in 1863, directly across the river from Fort Delaware. Designed as a heavily fortified artillery position, it was equipped with massive guns intended to help protect the river and its western channel.

This remarkable 1865 sketch shows the Ten Gun Battery and the surrounding landscape near Delaware City, more than 160 years ago.

The site would continue to evolve for decades before officially receiving the name Fort DuPont in 1899.

Every old map gives us another glimpse into the many layers of history beneath our feet at Fort DuPont.

🎉 Delaware City Day is tomorrow!

Head downtown on Saturday, October 3, for a day of community fun at Battery Park. Vendors and food trucks open at 11 a.m., the parade steps off at 1 p.m., and fireworks are planned for dusk.

It’s a great reason to spend the day in Delaware City and support our local businesses while you’re here.

👏 What a September! Between From Muskets to Machine Guns and our final Fort Folk Fest of the season, it was a busy month at Fort DuPont and we are grateful to everyone who came out and made these events feel special.

Thank you to our living historians, performers, volunteers, partners, supporters and every visitor who spent time with us this month. Free community events only work when the community shows up. You did and we appreciate it!

👏🇺🇸 THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DAY OF LIVING HISTORY! What a day at Fort DuPont!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us Saturday for From Muskets to Machine Guns: A Day of Living History.

We are incredibly grateful to the living historians, reenactors, participating organizations, 287th Army Band, volunteers, food vendors, sponsors, partners and supporters who helped make the day possible… and, of course, to everyone who came out to experience it with us!

From the displays and demonstrations to the music, Battery walking tour, firing demonstrations and a pretty memorable moment in the sky ✈️🇺🇸, it was wonderful to see the Fort DuPont Parade Ground come alive with history, learning and community.

Most of all, thank YOU for spending part of your Saturday with us! Seeing families, history enthusiasts, Fort DuPont residents and visitors exploring the grounds and engaging with our participants is exactly what days like this are all about.
