"Kicking off CSEW early, celebrating members—check out Andrew Parra!

Parra, a member of Desert Sands Unified Chapter 106, was the 2025 Laurence Twoaxe Unity Award winner.

Accepting the award, Parra shared his passion for unity and for promoting coalition among CSEA siblings, he said. “And that is why I love bringing all of us together and all our chapters.”

“You are all leaders in your communities and in your chapters; you will succeed. If you need anything, come to other chapters--we are all here to support each other!”

The Unity Award is given to members who actively promote unity and comradery, and advance union solidarity by organizing members, volunteering, fostering community, and inspiring ally-building partnerships.

CSEA in the 1970s -- Happy Labor History Month!

Despite gains made at the state level, treatment of classified workers varied greatly from one district to the next. In 1975, collective bargaining gave the union power to negotiate at the bargaining table and to represent employees under the full strength of new labor laws.
