Spring Hill Community Garden

Spring Hill Community Garden Spring Hill residents. Spring Hill residents will be able to lease 4ft X 12ft plots each for $20 a year.

The current garden plan is a collaboration between the Greater Union Life Center, the Stetson Center for Community Engagement, the University of Florida Agricultural Extension, the USDA, and the City of DeLand. The Public Health and Community Needs Assessment conducted by Stetson University and the Department of Health in 2016 found that Spring Hill residents were most concerned about their lack o

f access to fresh produce and many were dissatisfied by the lack of a community garden. Following this survey, Stetson began working with many different residents and agencies in the area to gather funding and support for a community garden in Spring Hill. That includes soil, fertilizer, irrigation, seeds, work gloves, and gardening tools. All you have to do is plant, w**d the plot, harvest, enjoy your freshly grown fruits and vegetables, and repeat. Master gardeners from the UF Agricultural Extension will be at the garden weekly teaching people what vegetables and fruits to plant, when to plant them, and when to harvest. Additionally, they will have cooking classes and demonstrations showing the many different uses for the harvested produce. The garden will be accessible from both the Chisholm Center and from the Delta House
