217 Acres in Conejos County Conserved!

Rancho Del Corazón is a 217-acre ranch near Antonito in Conejos County. The property contains significant wetland meadows, a portion of the Rio San Antonio, and various historic structures throughout. The landowner conserved the property with the intention of it being a hub for family connection and community in the years to come. The property contains great habitat for many of the large game that utilize the area in addition to seasonally supporting her cattle and purebred bull herd as well. The landowner’s passion for architecture can be seen throughout the property. Her passion has her constructing and restoring various structures on the property paying homage to the style found on ranches throughout the west. We are super excited to add an incredible property to RiGHT’s incredible portfolio of conserved lands found throughout the valley.

THIS FRIDAY! June is Pollinator Month, and we're celebrating the incredible diversity of pollinators that keep our ecosystems and food systems thriving. Join us Friday, June 27th for an evening all about the bees, butterflies, moths, bats, and beyond that make it all possible.

We have a fantastic lineup bringing their expertise to the table. Rachel Hosna, Botanist and range scientist, will share her knowledge of native plants and the pollinators that depend on them. Doug Clark, Wildlife Biologist with the Rio Grande National Forest, brings a lifelong passion for insects and ecosystems. And Ruthanne Johnson from the Colorado Native Plant Society rounds out an evening you won't want to miss.

Come learn what's happening locally, what you can do in your own backyard, and why these creatures matter so much to the San Luis Valley.

Grab a drink, bring a friend, and let's celebrate the pollinators. Talk starts at 6:30pm.

Today marks a major milestone for conservation in Colorado. HB26-1230, the bill to extend the conservation easement tax credit, has officially passed the Colorado Legislature with strong bipartisan support, including a 34-1 vote in the Senate on Third Reading. The bill now heads to Governor Jared Polis for consideration.

This victory would not have been possible without the leadership of bill sponsors Representative Matthew Martinez, Representative Elizabeth Velasco, Senator Barbara Kirkmeyer, and Senator Dylan Roberts, as well as the many advocates, landowners, land trusts, and partners who spoke up in support of conservation across the state.

At a time when Colorado lawmakers faced difficult budget decisions and a significant deficit, this effort demonstrated just how important the conservation easement tax credit is to protecting the places and resources Coloradans value most: working lands, clean water, wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and our agricultural heritage.

Thank you to everyone who sent letters, testified, hosted tours, made calls, coordinated with landowners, and helped tell the story of conservation in Colorado. This was truly a statewide effort.

A great result for conservation in Colorado! HB26-1230 to extend the Conservation Easement tax credits passed the Colorado legislature earlier this week and is now on the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. The land trust community across the state came together to provide testimony and support the bill through the process. Happy Water Day!

Today is Water Day at the Capitol hosted by Colorado Water Congress! Keep It Colorado joined Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust to share about our work protecting Colorado's lands and waters. From educating children about water to growing low-water rye, Coloradans are working together to solve some of our toughest water challenges. To cap it all off, Governor Polis read a proclamation that designates March 11 as Water Day! Thanks to Colorado Water Congress and all of the other partners who participated!
