La Jolla Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi

La Jolla Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi Pi Beta Phi was founded on April 28, 1867, at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. c/o www.pibetaphi.org

The 12 founders had a vision to form the first national secret society for women at a time when only five state universities admitted women. Pi Beta Phi distinguishes itself in the Greek world by leading the way as one of the first of seven founding members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), an umbrella organization for 26 international women’s fraternities and sororities. Pi Beta Phi w

as also the first organization to form an alumnae department in 1893, the first to organize a national philanthropic project in 1910 and the first to establish an alumnae advisory committee for each chapter in 1913. The founders of Pi Beta Phi created the Fraternity to cultivate sincere friendship, establish real-life objectives and promote happiness. Pi Beta Phi continues to encourage young women to develop meaningful relationships as they reach for their personal goals. Membership in Pi Beta Phi and the relationships it yields help sisters adapt to college life by providing a sense of belonging, mutual support and guidance.

We are so grateful for the continued support of La Jolla Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi and their commitment to literacy in our community. This past weekend, members of Pi Beta Phi generously donated to The Salvation Army Door Of Hope Rady Campus’s Donaldson Library, helping us provide a welcoming space where children and families can discover the joy of reading in their pursuit of furthering literacy.

Thank you Pi Beta Phi for investing in literacy and for sharing hope with those we serve.

Club member Martha Ehringer led a private after-hours tour for LJAC members highlighting some of the current exhibits at the Mingei International Museum. The exhibitions included: Fashioning an Icon (an exploration of the imaginative use of The Virgin of Guadalupe’s image in clothing design); Historic Footprints: Native American Ledger Drawings from Fort Marion; and Across the Spooniverse. Members enjoyed drinks and appetizers on the second-floor terrace. Thanks to Katy Dessent (Mingei board member) and Martha (Mingei’s Historian) for organizing this fun event!
