DeKalb County Tribute to Heroes

The “DeKalb County Tribute to Heroes 2026” was a community event held on October 1, 2026, at Faranda’s Banquets in DeKalb, Illinois, honoring local heroes and supporting Scouting America Three Fires Council. The 2026 honorees were - Mike Embrey, McArtor Family, Ellingswoth Webb, and an America 250 Silver Star honor - Sargeant First Class Jack Benton Baker.

Webelos Hike & Lunch - Saturday September 26, 2026

Troop 33 hosted a hike and lunch for Webelos in DeKalb and Sycamore at Russell Woods in Genoa. It was beautiful day. The hike included a stop off at the Nature Center and Kishwaukee River footbridge to see how high the river was. Lunch included dogs, brats, and burgers.

Be the One Walk - Saturday September 20, 2026

Be the One is the American Legion’s national initiative to raise awareness about the crisis of veteran su***de, destigmatize mental health support, and connect veterans to resources. It is a 2.2-mile walk routed from the Northwestern Wellness Center to Nehring Forest Preserve and return. The event symbolically carries 22 rocks representing the estimated 22 veterans or service members who take their lives each day. Despite the rain, over 100 people came to be involved for an important issue.

Zombies & Huskies - Saturday September 12, 2026

Troop 33 kept busy with two exciting events. First - feeding dogs, brats, burgers, to people at the Zombie Shoot. Second - tailgating sweetcorn for NIU Alumni at the ISU vs NIU football game.

Zombie Shoot is a 19-station shooting event held at Aurora Sportsman's Club located near Waterman. Two food stations, Troop 33 and No Prep Tacos, provide food for the event. Zombie Shoot occupied the major part of the day. Troop 33 tried a new 8-burner grill plus new 4-burner grill. It all went very well.

Tailgating at NIU's first home football game of the year was exciting. Troop 33 served sweetcorn dipped in butter to a group of NIU Alumni. Tailgating in the West Field is busy with so many things.

Equipment Project - Saturday September 5, 2026

Troop 33 needed to do some recovery and Corn Fest and preparation for the upcoming Zombie Fest and NIU Football.
