Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association serves as an extension of its member park districts - DeKalb, Genoa, Flagg-Rochelle, Sandwich and Sycamore.

Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association strives to enhance the lives of people with disabilities by cultivating diverse recreational opportunities within the community. The KSRA's mission is to serve all residents who have a disability and to facilitate the inclusion of these individuals into leisure programs.

🎨 Explore different art mediums, express your creativity, and make new connections!

📅 Dates & Locations:
• October 20 – DeKalb Park District
• November 17 – Genoa Park District
• December 15 – Sandwich Park District

⏰ Time: 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

👥 Ages: School-aged students, including transition program students

💲 Fee per session: $20 Resident / $25 Non-Resident

🌿 A day of learning, exploring, and enjoying the outdoors!

We had a great time visiting the Natural Resource Education Center at Russell Woods Preserve in Genoa, where we learned more about Illinois’ native plants and animals. What started as an opportunity to take a walk along the trails turned into a full day of exploration, discovery, and connection with nature.

A special thank you to University of Illinois Extension and the Natural Resource Education Center staff for welcoming our group and providing such an engaging tour!

The Natural Resource Education Center is DeKalb County’s only nature center and is supported through a partnership between University of Illinois Extension, the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District, and the DeKalb County Soil and Water Conservation District. We appreciate these community partners and the work they do to provide environmental education opportunities right here in DeKalb County.

Grab the family and join KSRA for an afternoon of bowling, family fun, and connection! Our Family Bowling Series kicks off this Saturday, September 26, at T-Byrd Lanes in Rochelle.

-Two games of bowling
-One pitcher of pop
-Earn raffle tickets toward our End-of-Series Grand Prize
-$30 per family of four

We’re Back on the Lanes!

KSRA’s Special Olympics Bowling season is officially underway! Last week our athletes kicked off the fall season with a great night of bowling, skill-building, and time with friends at Mardi Gras Lanes.

With 11 athletes participating this season, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone continue to develop their skills, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun together!

Here’s to a great season ahead! 🎳

⛳ A great day on the course with our Veteran Golf Program!

Last Friday, our golfers enjoyed a fantastic learning experience at Sycamore Golf Course as part of our partnership with the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA).

A special thank you to Paul Price from Sycamore Golf Course for sharing his expertise with our group. Paul walked participants through how to read each hole, plan ahead, identify challenges such as sand traps and other hazards, and make smart decisions based on their individual strengths.

It was a great opportunity to learn that golf is about more than just the next shot, it’s about strategy, preparation, and playing to your strengths.

Thank you to CDGA, Sycamore Golf Course, Paul, and all of our veterans who joined us for another great day on the course! ⛳

In observance of Labor Day, the KSRA office will be closed today. We will resume normal office hours tomorrow.

What a joy to look back on our time with Canines for Christ! 🐾 We were so excited to welcome them to ARISE for their last summer visit. Their ministry, their love for people, and of course, their amazing four-legged companions brought so much joy to our community. We’re grateful for the memories and the impact they made! 🙏✨
