📅 How Fat Tuesday Is Calculated

Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) is always the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian liturgical calendar.

Here’s the calculation sequence:
1. Easter Sunday is determined first.
• Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox (March 21).
2. Ash Wednesday is calculated as 46 days before Easter.
• (40 days of Lent + 6 Sundays, which are not counted as fasting days.)
3. Fat Tuesday is simply 1 day before Ash Wednesday.

Why the Date Changes

Because Easter is based on a lunar cycle, Fat Tuesday can fall anywhere between February 3 and March 9.

Krewe de Yak Membership Party!

This year, we brought the casino fun with play money of course and a delicious steak dinner straight to our members! 🎰🥩

Since 2009, Krewe de Yak has proudly brought the Mardi Gras spirit to DeFuniak Springs while celebrating with neighboring communities throughout the region.

Now we’re preparing for an early Carnival season and we want you to join the fun!

The Walton County Heritage Museum has been forced to shut its doors due to a HVAC Failure in the building being leased from the City of DeFuniak Springs. The city is currently working on fixing this issue, but the Krewe de Yak has stepped in to donate $1,000 to the Walton County Heritage Association, Museum, and Genealogy Society to purchase portable A/C units for the interterm.
