This year at the Center for Faith and Children, we are leaning deeply into the theme of relational children’s ministry. We believe that a child’s spiritual life is shaped not primarily by programs or polished performances, but by trustworthy, intergenerational relationships. These connections embody God’s love, welcome children’s hardest questions, and invite them into a community where they truly belong.
This month, we are turning our attention to one of the most vital—and often most stressed—relationships in a leader’s life: the relationship with our volunteers.

While we are not changing who we are or what we believe, we have changed locations. The Center for Faith and Children is now a part of Taylor University and it is exciting!

We feel welcomed and inspired as we kick off a new school year at a new institution. As we cultivate new relationships, we are going to spend this year digging into the relationships in children's ministry that help a child's faith flourish.

Did you know that questions and doubts are a healthy part of a developing faith? God is secure enough that he can handle all of questions, doubts, and wonderings. Let's model that for kids as we welcome them into our churches.

When children, do not have safe and understanding Christian adults to share their questions, doubts, and wonderings, that is when they can become problems to faith development.

How do create a safe environment to question and wonder?

My (Joy) children's school district is backing away from screentime. I appreciate the intentionality and willingness to humbly rethink their approach to tech. Is it time for your church/ministry to re-evaluate as well?

Last summer, we posted this piece on our blog. Technology has its place, but it can't replace the relationships that make a church or nurture children's faith. Steward it well!

Does the idea of spiritual practices seem too big or developmentally inappropriate for children? Or, maybe too intimidating for you or too contemplative for your church? They don't have to be! I love this definition of spiritual disciplines or spiritual practices from Adele Ahlberg Calhoun about space to "keep company with Jesus." Sounds inviting to me!

What are some of your favorite ways to invite children to keep company with Jesus?
