Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI) There are thousands of nurses throughout the World in which their professional practice model is based upon Watson’s. www.watsoncaringscience.org

Through education, practice, research and leadership, Watson Caring Science Institute’s mission is to inform, inspire and elevate nurses through its academic and clinical professional programs, focused on deep individual and cultural system change. “Caring Science is like PPE for the mind and spirit!”

Watson Caring Science Institute is an international non-profit 501C(3) organization that advances the unitary philosophies, theories and practices of ‘Caring Science’, developed by Dr. Jean Watson, Ph.D., RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, LL (AAN). Caring Science is a transdisciplinary approach that incorporates the art and science of nursing and includes concepts from the fields of philosophy, ethics, ecology and mind-body-spirit medicine. Every year there are only 20 national systems designated as a coveted WCSI Affiliate, Stanford Health being one. The institute has trained hundreds of Caritas Coaches® globally to translate the theory into concrete human-to-human practices to ‘live out’ the theory in their professional and personal lives, improving patient care, and reducing staff burn out.*

Focusing on research, education, practice, legacy and leadership, Watson Caring Science Institute aims to dramatically transform patient/family experiences of caring and healing in schools, hospitals, businesses, the community and our planet.

WCSI Endorses The Artist and Healer: A Journey of Creative Awakening
Exploring the creative emergence of nursing through Caring Science and the arts

Begins October 19 | Offers 40 CNE Contact Hours for nurses
No previous art experience is needed. Participants bring their curiosity and willingness to discover what is waiting to emerge.

WCSI has endorsed The Artist and Healer: A Journey of Creative Awakening, offer by Healing with the Arts and led by Mary Rockwood Lane, PhD, RN, FAAN.

Nursing is at a turning point. As we expand into new roles and new possibilities for caring and healing, we are also being invited to explore something more personal: Who are we becoming, and what might emerge when we make space for our own creativity?

The journey begins within.
Drawing on Jean Watson’s exploration of the nurse as an ontological artist, Mary invites participants to explore creativity as an expression of being and caring. Through art making, reflection, transpersonal caring practices, and creative healing experiences, participants are encouraged to reconnect with their own wholeness and explore new possibilities for being, becoming, and caring.

Mary’s open studios create a compassionate space to pause, listen inward, explore, create, share stories, and connect with a Caritas community where each person is welcomed exactly as they are.

No previous art experience is needed.
Creativity may take the form of painting, writing, movement, music, storytelling or something you have yet to discover. There is no right way to participate. Bring your curiosity, your imagination, and a willingness to explore what may be waiting to emerge.

UPCOMING CARITAS HEALING CONNECTIONS with Presenter Sandra Mohsan, CRN, BSN, PHN, TNP, Caritas Coach®!

"From Heart to Pen: Meditation & Journaling for Caregiver Resilience" | Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 11am (Eastern Time) | Free Event | Zoom Link: https://hubs.la/Q04zRXQB0

Program Overview:
Join author and caregiver advocate Sandra Mohsan for a restorative and interactive session. We will begin with a guided meditation featuring a healing crystal singing bowl and a meditation created by Sandra. Please have a pen, paper, or your journal ready — you will be invited to write down your experience immediately following the meditation.

Sandra will then open the space for shared reflection, either in breakout rooms or as a group, inviting participants to share their perceptions of the meditation. She will close with a short introduction to what meditation means to her, and why daily journaling has become an essential practice to enlighten the soul, reduce caregiver stress, and reconnect with yourself. No experience is necessary. Come as you are.

Hear from Dianne Reid, our Program Enrichment Director, on next month's "Science and Soul" Summit, hosted by the Vanderbilt School of Nursing. This gathering brings together nurses, educators, leaders, and Caring Science practitioners for a meaningful exploration of Watson’s Caring Science through speaker sessions and poster presentations.

Participants will also engage in two experiential sessions focused on self‑care modalities that can be integrated into both personal and professional practice.

To begin each day with intention, we’re offering optional morning wellness sessions:
• Nov. 20 – Yoga
• Nov. 21 – Qigong with Dianne
