We're at the Pend Oreille County Fair today, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday! Come visit our booth! Buy a raffle ticket, $5, for a chance to win a bee themed quilt or basket! We're raising funds so we can continue our mission. Our mission is to promote the art and technique of beekeeping through education and support of small-scale backyard hobbyist beekeepers and interested non-beekeepers.

A honeybee colony can consist of anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 bees! 😮 Here are a few things to know about the three types of bees in a colony. 🐝🐝🐝

WORKERS
✔️ Live for about 28-40 days
✔️ Collect pollen and nectar
✔️ Turn nectar into honey
✔️ Tend to the queen
✔️ Keep the hive clean

QUEEN
✔️ Lives between 1 and 3 years
✔️ Has a long body, short wings and bald back
✔️ Mates with drone (male) bees
✔️ Lays all the eggs — up to 2,000 in a day!
✔️ Secretes pheromones to give cues about the health of the hive

DRONES
✔️ Don't collect pollen or nectar
✔️ Can't sting
✔️ Have bulging eyes and a bulkier body
✔️ Die after mating with a queen
✔️ If they don't mate, will eventually get evicted from the hive by the workers before winter
