📚🚑 We’re so excited to be invited by the Stonington Public Library to take part in Story Hour! On Saturday, September 13th at 10am our crew will read some stories with the kids and then invite everyone to explore the ambulance.

It’s going to be a fun morning of reading, learning, and meeting our community’s helpers — we can’t wait to see you there!

We could not be more excited to have Memorial Ambulance Corps join us for our next Second Saturday Story Time on Saturday, September 13th at 10 AM!

The amazing volunteers from MAC will start us out by reading a fun story all about what they do, day in and day out, as they selflessly serve our island community. We will then head outside to explore the ambulance itself and get a little hands on experience with some of the tools and equipment MAC uses on a daily basis.

We are so excited for this opportunity to have them with us and hope you will join us!

🩺🎓 It’s official — we have 8 new members joining the MAC team!

A huge thank you to Jackie Pelletier, the Healthy Island Project, Eastern Maine Community College and our newest crew members for their partnership and dedication to this program.

Because of everyone’s combined hard work and collaboration, MAC has set a new standard that will have a statewide impact—making it possible for more people to become EMTs and support their communities.

I may be a bit partial to our crew and this organization, but moments like this make it clear that we have something truly exception on our island🚑

For the first time ever, Memorial Ambulance Corps rolled not one, but TWO shiny ambulances in the 4th of July parade!

Not sure if you can tell from all the smiling faces—but we’re wicked proud to represent our growing service and our commitment to expanding with the needs of our island community. 😊

🥵 It’s Not Just Blizzards That Should Keep You Inside…

We all know to stay in when there’s a snowstorm—but extreme heat can be just as dangerous. Think of it as the summer version of a snow day: no shoveling, just hydration and fans.

Here are some of our hot-weather tips:

☀️ STAY COOL
• Spend time in air-conditioned places whenever possible
• Limit outdoor activities, especially midday
• Wear loose, light-colored clothing

💧 STAY HYDRATED
• Drink plenty of water (yes, water—iced coffee doesn’t count)
• Avoid sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic drinks
• Watch for signs of dehydration: dry mouth, dizziness, or fatigue

📲 STAY INFORMED & CHECK ON OTHERS
• Check the forecast and heat alerts
• Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
• Never leave pets or people in parked cars
• Check on older adults, children, and pets - sometimes checking in is the best medicine

If it feels hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk, it’s too hot to be out there yourself.

🎉 Improving access, one ramp at a time! 🎉

A huge shout-out to the students of Deer Isle–Stonington High School and their teacher, Eric Beachy, who dedicated their time and energy to building wheelchair ramps at Deer Run Apartments—making the homes of our senior neighbors safer and more accessible.

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Island Health & Wellness Foundation Board of Directors and Barter Lumber, as well as the efforts of our Community Paramedicine providers, who identified the need and helped coordinate the work.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. It’s a powerful example of the compassion, collaboration, and community spirit that make our island such a special place to call home. 🌟

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Deer Isle - Sunset Congregational Church and all the incredible community members who supported our Community Paramedicine Program through the recent community supper.

We’re honored to be the beneficiary of such a generous and thoughtful event. From the volunteers who gave their time, to those who donated food and came out to share a meal—your support helps us continue providing vital care to our neighbors.

This is just one of the many amazing local organizations dedicated to strengthening our community, and we’re so grateful to be part of it. 💙🚑

🔨🚧 Construction has begun! 🪚🪏

You’ve heard that big things are happening for MAC this year — and here’s proof! Construction has officially begun on the building that will house our second ambulance, now known as MAC 2. 🛠️

Having two ambulances will allow us to respond to more calls and reduce the time it takes to deliver critical care to our island community.

We’re growing to serve you better — and this is just the beginning!
