The Friends of Dedham Public Library is a non-profit organization that promotes the use of the resources and services of the library for the community. The Friends support and assist the Library Director and staff in providing programs beneficial to library patrons and the general community. The Friends depend upon donations of cash and books from individuals and community sponsors to fund its pro
grams. We hold an annual membership drive, but anyone can join throughout the year. We solicit community sponsors, in particular for the Museum Pass program. We also handle bequests and other private donations to the library. We accept donations of books throughout the year. Please drop off donations on the first and third Saturdays of each month between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon at the main library, 43 Church St. To find out more information about our book sales, please see the library’s Calendar of Events and this page for more details. Money raised by the Friends is for Children’s Room programs, technology support, and other items that will benefit library programming that are not available through public funds. For example, we provided funding for the software necessary to create the library website and furniture and for a new teen corner in the lower level reading room. In addition, the Friends provide funding for the Museum Pass program, where patrons can reserve passes to receive a steep discount to approximately 20 museums in the greater Boston area. The Friends is an all-volunteer organization. The volunteers are people who love the library and work to encourage awareness of the value of the library to the community.
