Diversity is a wonderful thing. We’re fortunate to have living among us here in NE Iowa many immigrants, both individuals and families. The story of how they came is unique to each of them, and yet, there are common themes and timeline events.

NE Iowa Peace and Justice Center invites you to a presentation on Monday, October 28 at 7 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 701 Iowa Avenue to explore these topics:

*A brief history of greater immigration to NE Iowa since the early 2000’s.

*The main challenges immigrant familes are facing now and how are they coping with them.

*Their current sources of support and what more is needed?

*What we can do to help.

The program is free and open to all, in the fellowship hall.

Join us this Saturday, January 6 for a rally and March down Water Street to demand a ceasefire and negotiation to end the war in Gaza and Ukraine.

In solidarity with Code Pink, NE Iowa Peace and Justice Center is sponsoring a rally and march to raise awareness about the need for a ceasefire, dialogue and negotiation in Gaza and Ukraine. The event will begin at Mary Christopher Park on east Water Street at 10 am. After initial remarks and instructions from organizers, the march will proceed walking westward down Water Street to Vesterheim and then back to the starting point.
Those wishing to gather for sign making ahead of time can come to the Peace and Justice Center at 119 Winnebago from 5-6 pm on Friday, January 5th. All supplies will be provided.
Code Pink is a feminist grassroots organization working to end U.S. warfare and imperialism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect resources into healthcare, education, green jobs and other life-affirming programs. These include investments in social programs that uplift human dignity instead of tearing it down, such as universal health care, womens’ rights to reproductive choice, access to education regardless of income bracket and housing as a human right. Code Pink has chapters and affiliates all over the US and in many other countries, where similar events will be taking place in January.
For more information about the January 6 event, contact Julie Fischer at 563-287-9637or [email protected] or the NE Iowa Peace & Justice Center, 563-382-5337 or [email protected].

NE Iowa Peace and Justice Center invites you to join us at the Center for a pre-Christmas gathering to explore yearnings, conundrums, challenges, confusions and other aspects of the notion of having a personal impact on Sunday, December 17 at 2:30 pm. “Name My Impact: In the Season of Giving” is a fun and seriously hopeful opportunity to explore unique and personal responses to our need to contribute to a better world, in spite of the enormity of the task. A panel of locals who have chosen to take year-long action for change, unique and appropriate to their values, will share how they made these choices as well as the satisfactions and challenges that have resulted. Questions about what a difference or impact might look like, does need it be measurable, who is really benefiting and more will be explored. Participants will have an opportunity to share their own stories and garner help from others to craft their own plan for action in various realms.

NEIPJC is located at 119 Winnebago, kitty corner from the Decorah Public Library. For Questions or more information, contact NEIPJC at 563-382-5337 or [email protected].
