A heartfelt thank you to the Winneshiek County Cattlemen's Association—and especially to the Little Cowgirls and Little Cowhands royalty members—for stopping by in May with a generous donation of beef to the Winneshiek County Food Pantry.

Protein donations like this are incredibly meaningful and deeply appreciated. Beef and other protein sources are essential in helping us provide balanced, nutritious meals to the individuals and families we serve. Your generosity makes a direct and lasting impact in our community—thank you for your continued support!

Although the Little Cowgirls and Little Cowhand royalty members missed Brinley and Jayden, they did an awesome job donating BEEF to the Northeast Iowa Community Action Food Pantry in Decorah in May.

Today, we are remembering Scott Barnett, who served nearly 42 years at NEICAC before retiring from his position as Energy Programs Director in 2017.

May his legacy of kindness and service continue to inspire all of us who were fortunate enough to know and work alongside him.

As we wrap up Community Action Month, we’re shining a spotlight on our Corporation Secretary, Liz Courtney.💚

For nearly three years, Liz has been an essential part of Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation, helping ensure our organization runs smoothly behind the scenes (and upfront if you visit our Corporate office, too). Her work supports the day-to-day operations that allow our teams to serve families across our communities.

What motivates Liz most is knowing that NEICAC can be a helping hand for individuals and families facing difficult times—a reflection of the heart behind Community Action.

Thank you, Liz, for your commitment to the vital role you play in making our work possible!

NEICAC team members, family members, and furry friends participated in a photo op to celebrate another successful Community Action month.

Throughout the month, we’ve highlighted the heart behind our work and its impact—by introducing the dedicated staff who make it happen, celebrating the incredible volunteers and partners who give their time and resources, and sharing the success stories of individuals and families who have achieved their goals with the help of our programs.

Thank you to all who have interacted with our content this month, and a special Thanks to those who have donated to our Mission Support May Campaign!

💚 Thankful Thursday: Celebrating Our Volunteers 💚

Since January 1, 2026, more than 300 volunteers have generously given over 16,000 hours to help advance NEICAC’s mission. From supporting our food pantries to assisting in Head Start classrooms and providing critical administrative help, volunteers are truly essential to the work we do.

Our Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Coordinator, Rebecca Phillips, recently shared about the significance of volunteer Sue Schulz, in the success of our CACFP program:
"Sue Schulz is a valuable asset to the CACFP office. Sue has been a constant support, helping with assorted tasks from filing to putting together training packets and mailings. You can tell she takes pride in her volunteer work and supports the mission of NEICAC."

To all of our volunteers—thank you for stepping in, filling critical gaps, and helping us serve our communities.

As we wrap up our Throwback Thursday Weatherization spotlights, we’re reminded that a big part of our role as a Community Action agency is about showing up—on rooftops and in attics, in homes and classrooms, in outreach offices and food pantries, or on highways in an EARL bus. NEICAC is proud to offer hope and support to those who need it most.

Meet Sue, our Weatherization Clerical Specialist.

Behind every successful Weatherization project is a strong support system—and the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) Clerical Specialist is a vital component of the system.

From responding to customer inquiries to data entry and reporting, this position helps keep our Weatherization program running smoothly and efficiently. The Clerical Specialist connects households to critical services and ensures that each step of the process is documented, coordinated, and completed with care.

Because of this behind-the-scenes dedication, families across our service area receive the support they need to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and create safer, more comfortable homes.
The impact of Weatherization is made possible not only in the field, but through the essential work that keeps the program moving forward every day.
