DECATUR HOUSING AUTHORITY - IS NOW OPEN
HCV/Section 8 Waiting List
The waitlist for the HCV/Section 8 Program will open on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Applications will be available for pick up from the Decatur Housing Authority’s administrative office located at 1808 E Locust St, Decatur, IL 62521, during normal business hours on Thursday, March 5, 2026, or applications will be available online at www.decaturhousing.com.
Application must be returned to Decatur Housing Authority by 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026 via first-class regular mail and/or online submission. DHA would like to have a pool of 200 applications for the March 2026 HCV/Section 8 Lottery. No additional documents are needed at the time of initial application.
Decatur Housing Authority uses a “lottery” method for placing applicants on the waitlist. Applications will be placed on the wait list via random computer selection. Decatur Housing Authority has a local preference; you must live or work in Macon County at the time of application, and you will be required to prove such during your in-person intake interview. DHA will separate applications by Local Preference eligibility and non-local applications, assigning consecutive numbers to the applications in each category. Any family asking to be placed on the waiting list for the HCV/Section 8 Program will be given the opportunity to complete an application however, non-local applications will only be included in the lottery selection if DHA does not receive an adequate number of local preference applications. If 200 local preference applications are not received, then DHA will utilize the random computer selection for each category to determine placement on the waiting list.
Duplicate applications will NOT be accepted. If duplicate applications are received, both applications will be determined ineligible.
You must be 18 years of age and/or an emancipated minor at the time of application in order to apply and be eligible for the HCV/Section 8 Program.

You will be notified in writing of your placement on the HCV/Section 8 Wait List. Please be sure to keep DHA informed of any address and/or phone number changes. You must report changes in writing by completing the Applicant Update Form provided by Decatur Housing Auth
