Our Health Chair, Tasha Chapman, was honored to attend the Emory Hillandale Hospital CEO Community Breakfast in recognition of National Minority Donor Awareness Month, hosted in collaboration with the Multicultural Donor Education Program (MDEP) at LifeLink of Georgia.

The event brought together community leaders, including Stonecrest Mayor Jazzmin Cobble, for an important conversation surrounding organ and tissue donation and the need for greater awareness within the African American community.

The discussion featured Dr. Raul Badell, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Transplantation at Emory University School of Medicine and Surgical Director of the Living Donor Kidney Program at the Emory Transplant Center, and Bobby Howard, Multicultural Donor Education Program Director and kidney transplant recipient. Jen Schuck, CEO of Emory Hillandale Hospital, provided opening remarks to approximately 50 guests.

The lived experiences, education, and perspectives shared were both impactful and inspiring. More than 60% of those waiting for a transplant in Georgia are African American, making education and awareness within our community especially important. One organ, tissue, and eye donor can potentially save or improve the lives of more than 75 people.

The NAACP DeKalb County Branch Health Committee remains committed to promoting health education, increasing awareness, and connecting our community with information and resources that can improve and save lives. 💙

The DeKalb County NAACP would like to acknowledge the great work being done in our community to educate, inform, and bring awareness to issues that impact us all.

Our 1st Vice President, Martha Jackson, attended the Know Your Rights Forum presented by Greenforest Community Baptist Church’s Social Justice Ministry, where she was recognized as a Community Resource Partner representing the DeKalb County NAACP Branch.

The forum featured an outstanding panel of community leaders and professionals, including Judge Fatima A. El-Amin, Attorney Mawuli Davis, Chief Judge Asha Jackson, Dr. Tiffany Massey, and Attorney Gerald Griggs, who shared valuable information on court rights, civil rights and the Bill of Rights, firearm rights and safety, and health rights.

Martha’s presence reflects the importance of showing up, staying engaged, building relationships, and supporting efforts that educate and empower those we serve.

We believe it is important to remain active, engaged, and present in our community. Whether we are leading, partnering, or simply showing up to support the work of others, the DeKalb County NAACP is committed to staying connected to the people and organizations doing meaningful work throughout our community.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to attend the Jewel of the Mountain Innovative Engagement Summit, hosted by the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and sponsored by 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Inc.

The summit brought together numerous community leaders, with so much impactful information shared around voter awareness, civic engagement, and strengthening our communities. 🗳️

Our NAACP DeKalb County Branch President, Edwina Clanton, was among the many panelists who contributed to this important conversation.

A job well done to the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc for creating a space for collaboration, education, and action. When we all come together, we are truly a force to be reckoned with! ✊🏾

Today, our Political Action Committee (PAC) was at Morris Brown College providing voter education and awareness while supporting Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – Eta Omega Graduate Chapter and Alpha Sigma Undergraduate Chapter as they awarded scholarships to deserving students. 🗳️🎓

Students and parents also enjoyed burgers and hot dogs while connecting with valuable community resources. 🍔🌭

Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients! We’re proud to continue educating, engaging, and empowering our community.

🎉 WHAT A SUCCESS! OUR COMMUNITY SHOWED UP AND SHOWED OUT! 💙💛

On Saturday, August 8,2026 , our community showed up and out for NAACP Dekalb Community Health & Wellness Fair held at Berean Christian Church... incredible morning filled with health education, prevention screening and FUN!

🙌🏾 Over 250 people showed up, including attendees, volunteers, and vendors, with 20+ community partners and vendors coming together to provide valuable resources and services to our community.

And the impact speaks for itself:

🩺 56 men had their blood drawn for PSA testing through the Emory Winship Prostate Cancer Screening Bus.

❤️ Grady completed 52 wellness screenings, including glucose checks and other preventive health screenings.

🧪 20 attendees completed STI screenings, promoting prevention, early detection, and awareness.

Throughout the morning, our community took full advantage of the many FREE preventive health screenings, wellness services, health education, and community resources available.

And we had a GREAT time while doing it! 💃🏾 We warmed up with Zumba and ended the morning together with line dancing!

This is what community health is all about...bringing resources directly to the people, encouraging prevention and early detection, and making wellness both accessible and enjoyable.

A special thank you to Pastor Lee and Berean Christian Church for opening your doors and allowing us to host such an impactful event. We truly appreciate your partnership and support. 🙏🏾
