The Society of Georgia Archivists is excited to celebrate National Library Week! National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries and library professionals play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. Wednesday, April 22nd, is National Library Outreach Day. National Library Outreach Day celebrates library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons, community members, and allied professions where they are.

The SGA Outreach Committee asked this question of our G.L.A.M. (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) professionals: How is outreach related to your work? Here is what our members and allied professionals had to say.

Dr. shady Radical, Community Archivist: “Outreach is a big part of The Radical Archive Project. I reach out to scholars to facilitate or collaborate, students to conduct research and other archives related tasks, funders for support etc”.

Gaby Hale, Outreach Archivist: “My whole job is to connect people with my special collections library's collections and services! I do this in various ways, including through social media and programs that are free and open to the public. I also welcome groups for private "show and tell" visits, where they get to interact with a selection of archival materials that I curate specifically for them. Some of my favorite groups from over the years include fifth grade Latin students, a miniature book society, students and staff from Oklahoma's College of the Muscogee Nation, and a couple who came to view rare books for their "date night"! “

Happy National Library Week!
