We’re excited for the 4th Annual Decatur Makers Holiday Market, coming up in just under a month! 🎁Saturday, November 14th, 10a–4p.

There’s a Kid Zone with train rides, a bouncy house and maker fun. Live karaoke is back from 11a-1p, then Modern Analog takes the stage and takes us back to the 90s! And of course, the crowd-favorite wood-turned ornament station returns, so you can make your new favorite keepsake. 🪵✨

Come hungry! 🍽️ Abuelita Oaxaqueña will serve up your Mexican food favorites and Hapa Kitchen Est. 2022 will introduce us to Hawaiian comfort food, plus we'll have sweet treats, blended juices and more.

But the real goal? Getting that gift list handled. With over 30 vendors selling local, handcrafted goods, you’ll find gifts made with heart, right here at home. You can preview the full vendor list now on our event page or stay tuned for vendor highlights over the next few weeks.

Mark your calendar, bring your list, and tag a friend who swore they’d finish their shopping early this year. 🙌

You're making products. But are you building a brand? 👀

There's a difference between making something people want to buy and building a brand people recognize, remember, and connect with.

Char Miller-King, The Wooden Maven, turned her love of woodworking into opportunities far beyond selling what she makes, including teaching, media, and brand partnerships with The Home Depot and Carhartt.

How did she do it? And what can other makers and entrepreneurs learn from her journey?

Join us for Maker to Brand: Building a Business Around What You Make, our next Decatur Makers Founders Forum!

It was a spooky Friday night at Fernbank’s Fernbank After Dark where we held an exhibit on the echolocation of bats! Participants walked through an echolocation exhibit, learning the stages of how bats find food, and got to try out echolocation sound waves on different materials! Thank you so much for having us Fernbank! 🦇

You make something. Could you build a brand around it? 👀

Our next Decatur Makers Founders Forum welcomes Char Miller-King, The Wooden Maven, for:
🛠️ Maker to Brand: Building a Business Around What You Make

Char has taken her love of woodworking far beyond simply making and selling. Her journey has grown to include entrepreneurship, teaching, content creation, and brand partnerships with companies like The Home Depot and Carhartt.

She’ll join us to talk about how she built a business and recognizable brand around her craft, how new opportunities became part of that journey, and what she’s learned along the way.

And we’re especially excited to welcome Char back to Decatur Makers! 💚 Char was a member of our maker community, taught woodworking in the space, and served on our Board of Directors.

Whether you’re already selling what you make, building a side hustle, or just wondering where your creative skills could lead, come join the conversation.

🧸🩹 The Toy Hospital is open!

Turns out you're never too young to learn that "broken" doesn't have to mean "throw it away." 💛

This past weekend we headed to Children's Museum of Atlanta for the member preview of Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit, where our volunteer Toy Doctors helped young visitors patch up their favorite stuffed friends with sewing supplies, repair skills, and lots of encouragement. 🪡✨

At Decatur Makers, we're all about learning by doing and giving things another chance. Sometimes that's a lamp, a bike, or a wobbly chair 🔧🚲💡… and sometimes it's a beloved stuffed animal who needs a little TLC.

The lesson is the same: before we replace it, let's learn how it's made and see if we can fix it. 🛠️

Huge thanks to the Children's Museum of Atlanta for inviting us, and to our amazing Toy Doctors Nicole, Maureen, and Carlee! 👩‍⚕️ (Fun fact: Maureen is an actual MD, so "Toy Doctor" wasn't much of a stretch 😄)
