Here’s to the people—and the work—that help make healthcare access possible. Happy Labor Day!

The athenahealth world tour officially began today in Decatur, GA, as this talented and compassionate group of rolled up their sleeves at MedShare’s volunteer and distribution center to sort and pack medical supplies that will help expand access to care in communities around the world. A huge thank you to everyone who took part—including Adrienne Alsandor, who has volunteered with MedShare for 12 years, including 8 years with athenahealth and 4 with Philips!

Employee volunteerism is a core part of , athenahealth’s global corporate social responsibility program, which is focused on advancing equitable access to healthcare for all. Through hands-on service, athenistas are putting that commitment into action—connecting with causes at the heart of their mission and making a difference beyond the workplace.

And the tour continues next week! MedShare is taking the show on the road to athenahealth’s campus in Belfast, Maine, before heading to the company’s headquarters in Boston, where athenistas will collectively assemble thousands of Clean Birthing Kits (CBKs). These kits contain essential supplies that help create a safe and sanitary birth environment for mothers and newborns in low-resource healthcare settings, where childbirth is more likely to take place outside of a medical facility.

These events demonstrate the power of employee engagement to turn corporate social responsibility commitments into tangible health impact.

We’re grateful to athenahealth for showing up with their hearts and hands—and for helping MedShare advance our shared commitment to health access and equity around the world.

How do you provide healthcare to thousands of people in your community when your entire annual operating budget is $250,000 or less?

Nearly half of our country's free and charitable healthcare organizations do just that—every day. They stretch donated dollars and services, volunteer hours, medications, and every available resource to meet growing healthcare needs with remarkably little.

And that is why every dollar matters.

So when MedShare donates medical supplies and equipment, the money saved doesn't have to disappear into the cost of keeping the doors open. They can go where they matter most: toward caring for patients.

That's the nearly impossible math these clinics are doing every day—and why helping them stretch every dollar can make such a meaningful difference. Together, let's continue to support these clinics and access to healthcare for all.

One of the biggest misconceptions about free and charitable clinics? That they primarily serve unemployed individuals.

In reality, according to the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC), 58% of patients served by member clinics are employed.

These are working parents. Caregivers. Restaurant workers. Construction workers. Bus drivers. Teachers' aides. People doing everything right—and still struggling to afford healthcare.

Supporting free and charitable clinics helps bridge the growing affordability gap. Every dollar MedShare can help them save by donating high-quality medical supplies and equipment means they can serve more people who need care, whether they have insurance or not.

Healthcare access isn't only about insurance. It's about affordability.

As the Emory University/Atlanta VA Medical Center medical mission team departs for Nigeria tomorrow, MedShare would like to wish them a safe, successful, and impactful journey.

Just last year, this dedicated team performed 81 intricate life-changing surgeries, bringing hope and specialized care to patients who otherwise may not have access to these critical services. This year, they once again carry not only their expertise and compassion—but also medical supplies from MedShare to help expand the reach of their mission.

For decades, Emory and MedShare have shared a commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and improving access to quality care around the world. We are honored to support this incredible team as they continue that tradition of service. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to improving lives and advancing global health -- your work is an inspiration to us all.

From all of us at MedShare, we wish you safe travels, successful procedures, meaningful partnerships, and a mission filled with hope and healing. We look forward to celebrating your impact when you return.

Everyone who needs care deserves a place to turn.

Last year, free and charitable clinics provided more than 8.2 million patient visits across the United States. Behind every visit is someone who simply needed access to healthcare.

Together, let's help ensure these clinics can continue to serve the most vulnerable in their communities.

Today marks the official start of hurricane season. For organizations like MedShare, preparedness is not a seasonal activity, it is a year-round commitment.

Over the past several decades, MedShare has responded to disasters and humanitarian crises around the world, providing critically needed medical supplies and equipment when healthcare systems are stretched beyond capacity and struggling to meet patient needs.

The reality is that disaster response begins long before a storm even forms.

At a time when humanitarian resources are increasingly strained and funding for relief efforts faces growing uncertainty, maintaining a state of readiness has never been more important. Every dollar invested in preparedness helps ensure that when communities need help most, lifesaving medical supplies can move quickly and efficiently to where they are needed.

Your support helps MedShare remain prepared to respond—not only when disaster strikes, but throughout the long road to recovery that follows.
