Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence

Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence WRCDV provides support and services to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and their children in greater Atlanta, Georgia.

Each day we help survivors of domestic violence improve their safety by finding a safe place to stay, exercising their legal rights, exploring options and creating accountability for batterers. We greet women with compassion – no judgment, no second-guessing, and no shame. We provide connection - through relationships built with our staff, support groups and bonds forged with fellow safe house res

idents. By linking women with community supports and offering our services, we make sure no one has to take this walk alone. Equally importantly, we provide a voice for survivors when they cannot speak for themselves and a platform for those who can speak to be heard. Our advocacy for survivors of domestic violence works to change the culture that allows abuse to thrive. That advocacy, coupled with our powerful work with children, facilitates prevention and ending domestic violence altogether.

A huge thank you to The Decatur Romeos for their generous gift of $1,625 to Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence! We are so grateful for your support.

The Decatur Romeos are a group of men in Decatur who regularly come together to support causes that are meaningful to them. As husbands, fathers, brothers, and neighbors, they believe in building a community where everyone deserves to live without fear at home. Thanks to partners like the Decatur Romeos, we can continue to support survivors as they find safety and build new futures for themselves. 💜

As we approach Father’s Day on June 21st, we want to invite you to participate in our 25th annual “It Takes a Man to End Domestic Violence” ad in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 💙 This Father’s Day, celebrate the men who choose empathy, respect, presence, and nonviolence.

For more than 20 years, Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence’s It Takes a Man to Stop Domestic Violence campaign has honored fathers, brothers, friends, mentors, and role models who help make our homes and communities safer.

This year, we invite men to add their names as a public commitment to ending domestic violence. We also invite supporters to make a gift in honor of a father, father figure, partner, friend, or mentor whose example inspires safety, respect, and healthy relationships.

Honored names will be featured in a Father’s Day tribute published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Your gift helps provide life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence across Atlanta, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, support groups, and community education.

🎥 Stay tuned throughout June for special video spotlights featuring fathers, community leaders, and role models sharing what healthy masculinity means to them, the values they hope to pass on to the next generation, and why men have an important role to play in ending domestic violence.

Join us this Father’s Day and help create a world free from violence.

When a Protective Order alone isn’t enough, safety for children has to go further.

At Nia’s Place, WRCDV provides supervised visitation and safe exchange services—ensuring that when courts determine visits must be monitored, children are protected from harm or the threat of abduction. Here, safety isn’t a question. It’s a constant, steady presence.

In 2025, Nia’s Place supported:
• 56 families
• 118 children
• 207 supervised visits
• 161 safe exchanges

Behind these numbers are families navigating incredibly difficult circumstances—and children who deserve to feel safe, no matter what.

Every visit is carefully observed. Every exchange is thoughtfully managed. Every moment is grounded in one goal: making sure time with a parent never comes at the cost of a child’s safety.

Because safety isn’t just a service...it’s a promise.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Healing doesn’t always look like big, visible milestones. Sometimes it’s found in the quiet moments when someone finally has the space to breathe.

Julie came to us after hours in a hospital, exhausted and carrying more than anyone should have to carry alone. While she waited for a forensic medical exam, one of our sexual assault advocates sat beside her. There was no rushing, no pressure, just presence. A warm cup of tea. A pair of cozy socks. A blanket.

Julie noticed, “You have my favorite tea.” Later, through tears, she shared something even more powerful: “I can get through this.”

And she did.

Mental health support isn’t always about having the perfect words. Sometimes it’s about sitting in the silence, honoring someone’s pace, and reminding them gently that they are not alone.

In 2025, during the first year of our sexual assault advocacy services:
• We answered 1,596 calls on our 24-hour hotline
• We supported 60 survivors through forensic medical exams
• We provided ongoing advocacy to 258 individuals

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we honor the strength it takes to keep going,
and the importance of spaces where healing can begin, on your terms.

A huge thank you to Safe Haven Transitional for serving as our guest speakers for this month’s Volunteer Learning Academy! 💜

They led such a heartfelt and meaningful workshop centered on women’s mental health, self-care, mindfulness, and the importance of community. From the calming candlelight atmosphere to the thoughtful self-care assessment and sweet goody bags for participants, every detail helped create a truly restorative and welcoming session.

It was a lovely evening of learning, slowing down, and reminding ourselves that rest does not need to be earned. Taking good care of yourself helps you take good care of others.

We are so grateful for the wisdom, compassion, and care Safe Haven Transitional shared with our volunteers and community. Thank you for such a special evening! ✨

Access to safety and justice shouldn’t depend on whether you can navigate the legal system alone.

At WRCDV, our Legal Advocacy Program exists to stand beside survivors every step of the way—helping translate complex processes into clear options, and ensuring no one has to face the courtroom without support.

In 2025, that support looked like:

• 12,265 calls answered by our legal advocates—an average of 61 every single day
• 5,529 individuals served through the legal program
• 1,590 petitioners guided through the ex parte Temporary Protective Order process
• 1,949 Temporary Protective Orders filed
• 911 survivors supported through second hearings
• 64 attendees served through our family law legal clinic

Behind each number is someone seeking safety. Someone asking, “What are my options?” Someone taking a step, often a difficult one, toward stability and protection.

Legal advocacy is more than paperwork and court dates. It’s about making sure survivors are heard, informed, and supported as they make decisions for themselves and their families.

Every call answered. Every form filed. Every hearing attended. It all adds up to something bigger: access to justice that centers survivors and meets them where they are.

Because no one should have to navigate this alone.

We’re celebrating Elasha and an incredible milestone on her journey to independence! 🚗✨

Elasha is working part time, building her savings, attending school to become a medical assistant, and taking her son to daycare on MARTA...all while staying focused on creating a brighter future for her family.

When we referred her to the National Auto Body Council’s vehicle donation program, she was originally matched with a car that unfortunately had flood damage discovered at the last minute. She was told she may need to wait until the fall for another opportunity.

But thanks to the advocacy and dedication of the NABC team, another body shop stepped in quickly to prepare a 2022 Honda Civic Sport with 60,000 miles for Elasha instead.

This vehicle means more than transportation, it means greater stability, opportunity, and freedom for a hardworking mom determined to succeed. We are so proud of you, Elasha! ❤️
