Clothe Our Kids of North Alabama is a ministry of First Priority of Greater Decatur whose mission is to provide clothing and shoes to children in need in Morgan and Lawrence Co. This is accomplished by working directly through local school counselors and other organizations who call and request clothing for a child in need. In order to maintain our mission of helping those most in need, we are not
open for public requests for clothing. If a parent contacts us needing clothing for their child we will direct them to their child’s school counselor. All identities are kept confidential by the schools. Teachers, counselors, and child advocates see our children every day they are aware of the kids in need. They see the children who wear the same clothes to school every day or who come to school in the middle of winter with no coat. That’s why it made so much sense to make our schools the point of contact to help these children. We are supported solely by community clothing, shoe, and hygiene product donations. Each clothing bag contains 5-7 outfits, coat, shoes, a pack of underwear and socks (if our supply allows), and a hygiene kit. All clothing and shoe donations are screened for school and weather appropriateness and cleanliness. Then are then organized and made ready for distribution. We distribute each bag of clothing directly to the individual school. We ask that all adult clothing donations be style appropriate for teens. Our heart is to help children and give them hope. Having warm and adequate clothing for school will help set them up for success both academically and socially and tell them they are loved and cared about.
