🦟 When you think of mosquito-borne diseases, is your first thought malaria? Mosquitoes also transmit lymphatic filariasis, which is called a “neglected” tropical disease because it doesn’t get as much global attention, even though hundreds of millions remain threatened by it.

On World Mosquito Day, we’re bringing that attention to LF and to the governments, health workers, and volunteers working to eliminate LF across Africa.

Timor-Leste made history when it was validated by World Health Organization (WHO) for eliminating lymphatic filariasis (LF) as a public health problem, becoming the first country to achieve this using a "triple therapy" treatment strategy.

Highlighted in our latest annual report, this landmark milestone safeguards 1.4 million people from permanent disability. The achievement was driven by strong leadership and dedication from the Ministry of Health, local health workers, and with donated medicines from Merck, GSK, and Eisai Global. The Task Force’s Mectizan Donation Program manages Mectizan donations and coordinates delivery of GSK’s albendazole.

Timor-Leste’s success is already paving the way for other nations fighting LF. Read the full story in our annual report: https://www.taskforce.org/2025-annual-report/freeing-future-generations-from-lf/
