GIPL's Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Grants are OPEN! This year, GIPL has two separate grant opportunities for Green Teams to apply for with awards ranging from $500-$1,500.

Our Engagement Grant encourages participation in upcoming GOTV efforts in Georgia around the Public Service Commission and our Security Grant supports partners hosting nonpartisan GOTV events.

We’re now hiring an Environmental Justice Policy Analyst to join our organizing team!

This person will to help cultivate the next generation of faith-rooted environmental and energy justice leaders in Georgia. Serving as a bridge between faith-rooted organizing, public policy, grassroots advocacy, and political accountability work, the Analyst will translate complex policy issues into accessible public engagement and help build durable relationships across local, state, and federal venues.

This is a full-time position based in Georgia requiring periodic travel throughout the state.

Who pays for the data center down the road?

Most new large-load customers (including data centers) in Georgia aren't paying their share of fuel costs — not the pipelines, not the solar and wind, not even the senior citizen fuel discount. Families and small businesses are picking up the bill instead.

Our next Green Team Roundtable is next Tuesday, Sept. 8 at noon on Zoom.

GIPL Program Fellow and Candler School of Theology - Emory University (TAG) student Cate Tedford will be leading a discussion on the practice of “Lectio Vitae” inspired by the practice of Lectio Divina, or “divine reading,” from Christian contemplative traditions. This adapted spiritual practice is an opportunity for participants to reflect on their own experiences and connections to Sacred Earth.

Yesterday, GIPL said goodbye to one of our saints. Thank you for your life and legacy, Wendell Berry.

As we reflect on Wendell's life and work, we keep coming back to his poem, "The Peace of Wild Things."

"When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free."

Earlier this month, we joined Georgia Clinicians for Climate Action and Electrify Decatur at Decatur First United Methodist Church for a workshop about the connections between fossil fuels, air pollution, and greenhouse gases.

We talked about how pollution affects human health and contributes to climate change, practical solutions that reduce emissions and improve indoor air quality, and resources and lessons from a community-led electrification program.

In a historic first, the Georgia Public Service Commission is holding their meeting in Savannah on Tuesday, September 15! This meeting will be open to the public, and will include time for public comments.
