Diwali Facts:
Diwali also plays a significant role in Sikhism. The foundation stone of the Golden Temple was laid on the day of Diwali in 1577. Sikhs also celebrate Diwali, as it marks the release of their gurji – Guru Hargobind Sahibji – and 52 other kings and princess of India that were made captives by the mogul emperor Shah Jahan.

Eid Facts:
When the Prophet Muhammad arrived at the city of Madinah, he found some people celebrating two explicit days in which people used to amuse and entertain by merriment and playing. Prophet Muhammad asked people regarding the nature of these sorts of celebrations and merriment at which people responded that these festivities were occasions of recreation and fun of days of jahilliyah. At this point, the Prophet Muhammad remarked that the Almighty God has set two days of holidays instead of these festivities for you, which is far better: Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

Diwali Fact:
There are varied interpretations of Deepavali in India – according to North Indian traditions, Deepavali marks the return of Lord Rama after 14 years in exile, but down South of India, they believe that Deepavali is celebrated to mark the demise of the evil Narakasura by Lord Krishna!
Families mark this significant event by drawing a colorful rangoli, which is a decorative pattern made from rice flour, at the entrance of their homes. They hope that Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune will see the beautiful patterns and visit their homes!

Eid Facts:
Eid-ul-Adha is performed on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah according to the Islamic Calendar. It can be performed any time after sunrise but before Zuhr prayer.
After Eid-ul-Adha prayers, They perform the Qurbani ritual, which entails sacrificing a goat. The Qurbani meat is then divided into three portions. One part is for their family, the second part is for their neighbor and finally, the third part is for the poor. In retrospect, Islam teaches to feed the hungry, the less privileged and to look out for the well-being of our neighbours.

Diwali Fact:
Diyas light the houses; fireworks illuminate the skies and rangoli decorate the outside of homes. We do this to attract goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of good fortune.

Eid Fact:
Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid al-Fitr. Literally, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," Eid al-Fitr is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations (the other occurs after the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca). The Eid prayer is different from the regular prayer known as Adhaan. The special prayer can be done anytime between the Ishraq (dawn) and Zawal (midday) prayers.
