World Teachers' Day 2026 celebrates the teachers who are shaping the future of education.

HFLI sees the educators who commit their Saturdays to learning with the Restorative Educator Fellowship,
+the MAISD educators who have dedicated years to developing a community that advances deeper learning opportunities for their students,
+the 75+ staff and faculty members who are intentionally fostering a Deeper Learning by Doing(R) culture at the new Woodbridge Elementary School,
+teachers at Henry Ford Academy- Dearborn and University Prep Academy HS who are activating the next generation of lawyers through Ford Law Career Academy,
+the thinkers and doers of the Long Now Education movement who are catalyzing transformative, not incremental, human-centered change in education
+and the hundreds of other professionals we have had the privilege of working with this year.

The future of education, where all students experience an excellent education in partnership with adults who are prepared to engage them meaningfully, depends on us to recognize them as the talented and unique young people they are while we support them in who they are becoming.

Last weekend, we welcomed Cohort D of our Restorative Educator Fellowship to the second year of their learning journey!

Together, we experienced a new exhibit - The Jackson Home at Greenfield Village - guided by The Henry Ford’s Heather Bruegl, Curator of Political and Civic Engagement - and explored two key questions:
1) How can individuals – through their work and relationships – make a difference?
2) How can you use a shared experience to build community with your students?

The Jackson Home, now more than 100 years old, is a unique time capsule documenting one of the most momentous movements in U.S. history: the Selma to Montgomery marches — a sustained effort to ensure that all Americans would have the civil rights and voting rights promised to them.

Helping young people prepare for life after high school takes more than one program, one school, or one organization. It takes sparks of innovation and understanding the gaps that need to be filled. It takes collaboration across communities and systems.

The College & Career Readiness Innovation Challenge, hosted by Indiana Youth Institute and facilitated by Henry Ford Learning Institute, is a hands-on event for youth-serving professionals and cross-sector partners to turn ideas into action. You’ll work with peers across education, workforce, nonprofit, and community spaces to explore local opportunities and challenges and create solutions that can support the youth you serve.

It's been a wonderfully full week of learning with MAISD district leaders, school leaders, and educators!

We began with a 2-day Adaptive Leadership for Innovation workshop.

On Wednesday, we kicked off Design Thinking for Deeper Student Learning, a 3-day workshop designed to increase MAISD educators' capacity to apply Design Thinking and Deeper Learning by Doing® in their work with students. Following an introductory Rapid Cycle Design Challenge, teams embarked on a Deep Dive that challenged them to design a way to improve the Farmers’ Market experience for a specific user. During on-site fieldwork at the Muskegon Farmers Market, teams immersed themselves in the experience, talked with visitors, customers, and sellers, and made informed observations before heading back to home base to engage with Design Thinking tools, methods, and mindsets to develop solution ideas.

Throughout the workshop, our 26 participants "crushed" the connection prompts, cup games and other activities they can take back to their classrooms and schools.
