The following is from ACCESS Executive Director Hassan Jaber:
ACCESS congratulates President Obama on his historic re-election, which must also be considered a victory for democracy and an affirmation of the strength that diversity brings to our nation. Throughout this long campaign, we witnessed too many efforts to divide and polarize this country along socioeconomic and religious lines. The level of engagement during the election – particularly among minorities, young people and women – redefines the issues that are driving the American agenda. The United States of 2012 is a palette of colors, ages, religions and economic levels -- people who reached forward to assert their right to full and meaningful engagement in the future of this nation. In doing so, they sent a clear message to Washington that the priorities of the next four years must include fair and humane immigration reform, and an end to racial and ethnic profiling and the politics of racial separation. Like all Americans, we seek a strong economy, an end to poverty, quality education, good jobs, affordable health care, a clean environment and a peaceful world. This is our agenda; it is the American agenda.
