A V8 engine in a Model T? Here's what might have been.......

Yes, there was such a thing, but it wasn’t a product of the Ford Motor Company. An enterprising Ford dealer in San Bernardino, California produced the Flivver V8.     Henry Ford’s Model T (1909-1927) has been called many things … Continue reading →

Remembering Mrs. Eleanor Clay Ford, the great lady of Ford House.

Today, we remember Eleanor Clay Ford, who passed away on this day in 1976.

Eleanor was known for her quiet strength, thoughtful leadership, and deep love for family, art, and community. She and her husband, Edsel Ford, built Ford House as a place filled with creativity, beauty, and warmth.

Her legacy continues to shape this home and the experiences shared here. Every garden, every view of the lake, and every welcoming gesture at Ford House reflects her enduring influence.

Happy Memorial Day! Today we not only remember those who gave all, but also the life and contributions of Edsel Ford.

Happy Memorial Day! Today we not only remember those who gave all, but also the life and contributions of Edsel Ford.

Today, as we honor the brave service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation, we also remember Edsel Bryant Ford, who died on this day — May 26, 1943 — at the age of 49. A son, husband, father, leader, and innovator, Edsel’s legacy continues to shape the place he once called home.

Though not a soldier, Edsel played a vital role on the home front during World War II, leading Ford Motor Company’s efforts to produce aircraft and military equipment to support the Allied cause. His work helped protect the very freedoms we recognize today.

Edsel was also a man of quiet vision and profound generosity. With his wife, Eleanor Clay Ford, he raised four children and helped shape Detroit’s cultural life through their support of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and other institutions that continue to enrich lives. Their shared values — of service, family, and community — remain central to the mission of Ford House.

We are closed today to reflect on the memory of those who served. Still, we invite you to return soon to experience The Ford Family Story — a free, permanent exhibition inside our Visitor Center. It offers an intimate look at the family behind the legacy and how their lives continue to inspire future generations.
