As May comes to a close, we’re wrapping up National Foster Care Month with a reminder that the need is still great.

Across Michigan, more than 10,000 youth are in foster care. Many are living with relatives, which can help children stay connected to the people, places, and relationships they already know. Kinship care can provide stability during an uncertain time while helping youth maintain a sense of family and belonging.

For the children who need a foster home outside of their family network, loving foster parents can make an incredible difference. Vista Maria’s Foster Care team is here to support families as they open their homes to youth who need safety, care, and connection.

What a joyful and powerful night. 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Fearless Heart Gala and filled the room with hope, generosity, and so much love for Vista Maria’s mission.

It was especially meaningful to honor and hear from former clients who returned to share their stories. Their honesty, humor, and courage reminded us why this work matters, and how deeply Vista Maria’s mission continues to live in the people who carry it forward.

We were also proud to share a glimpse of Vista Maria’s next chapter as we continue building on our legacy and strengthening the ways we serve youth, women, and families across our community.

To our sponsors, guests, volunteers, honorees, staff, and supporters: thank you for making this night so special.

Together, we carry the mission forward.

Our Vista Maria Ambassadors Group recently hosted a mixer with some members of our Board of Directors, where they created sensory boxes and bottles for youth in our Foster Care program to use during family visits, court hearings, time with staff, and other moments when extra support is needed.

Giving back to the mission is at the heart of this group. If you are interested in building your resume while making a meaningful impact, consider joining. To learn more about the Ambassadors and how to get involved, fill out this interest form: https://ow.ly/ubCp50Z0rRw

Food brings us together like nothing else.

At Shepherd Hall, our amazing staff member Gabby recently led tenants in a fajita cooking session filled with laughter, bold flavors, and genuine connection.

For Gabby, it is about more than just the meal. “The kitchen is not a place, it is a feeling of love, comfort, and connection. We do not just cook food, we create moments that bring people closer together.” Seeing our youth smile, laugh, and learn is what keeps her going, and it is exactly what makes moments like these so special.

Mosley says hello!

He recently stopped by Shepherd Hall to share some joy with our tenants and, of course, plenty of snuggles.

Thank you to Go Team Therapy Dogs for three years of bringing comfort, smiles, and wagging tails to campus.

We’re so grateful for the 522 volunteers in 2025 who helped make our campus more beautiful, brought our events to life with balloon arches, and showed up for our youth through board game tournaments, book distributions, mentoring, and so much more!

Substance abuse prevention plays a vital role in our youth's healing journey.

Here on campus at Shepherd Hall, Lauren, a Certified Prevention Specialist, volunteers with our youth every other week, offering guidance, support, and education.

This Alcohol Awareness Month, she shares valuable insights and the advice she offers to help young people make healthy, informed choices.

One mistake doesn't have to define your life.

When young people in our Juvenile Justice program stumble, we never meet them with judgment. Instead, we show up with guidance, encouragement, and the tools they need to grow.

April is Second Chance Month, and our Juvenile Justice team is rallying around our youth because, at Vista Maria, we believe in the power of second chances - this month and every month.
