Volunteers needed! Come learn about firefighting, vehicle extrication, medical and more. This winter we are training some of our newer volunteers and now would be a great time to join the team and learn with them. We train on Tuesdays at 6:30pm.

'In a disaster emergency, HELP/OK signs are a way for residents to communicate their status to first responders'
These signs are available at both of our Post Offices. They would be helpful in an event where communications are down and responders need to check on you. This is a good way to be prepared as winter approaches.

Fire season is here. As of 12:01 am, June 9, we are at Moderate (Blue) fire danger. For the general public, the use of gas-powered or spark-emitting equipment within our fire protection boundaries is prohibited between the hours of 1 pm and 8 pm. All burning is prohibited for the duration of fire season. The use of fire pits is only allowed in designated campgrounds or by special permit only. Early yesterday morning we were called to an industrial fire at a lumber mill. Crews remained on scene for 18 hours and successfully contained the fire to the woodchip silo. A vacuum truck was used to remove some of the fuel load from the fire while several personnel and apparatus worked tirelessly to spray water on the fire to keep conditions from getting worse. We would like the extend our deepest gratitude to our mutual aide partners Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority , Mapleton-OR Fire Department and to Lane Fire Authority who came from the valley. After about 4 hours of sleep our crews were called back to the scene to supply more water. This fire will likely continue to burn for several days.

On July 21st Swisshome-Deadwood RFPD responded to a call for smoke showing 3 miles north of Indian Creek Road in the Siuslaw National Forest. We arrived on scene just a few minutes before the US Forest service and were able to provide 4,000 gallons of water for the initial attack which was instrumental in keeping the fire small, just under two acres. On July 22nd we had a water tender working the fire all day, providing an additional 10,000 gallons of water for mop up operations. Thanks to the collaborative effort of federal, state and local fire agencies the Velvet Creek Fire was quickly controlled and is no longer a threat. Crews will continue to monitor the fire to ensure any hot spots are quickly addressed.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 11:00 PM Saturday, July 20 to 11:00 AM Sunday, July 21 that includes Blachly-Lane’s service territory. In response to this warning, Blachly-Lane is following our Wildfire Mitigation Plan and implementing wildfire prevention protocols. These protocols increase the chances of outages and mean that outages may happen without additional notice. In addition, outages may last longer than usual as crews patrol and clear lines. Fire season is here. Please follow the fire restrictions chart in the comment section below. Fireworks are prohibited during fire season. Here are some safety tips for fire season: Do not park on dry grass, double check your trailer chains so they don't drag, fully extinguish camping/cooking fires, be extra cautious of sparks caused by equipment and vehicles. Please be accountable for your neighbors if you see burning or other prohibited actions. Do not hesitate to call 911 if you see burning or other prohibited actions, but please consider informing them of fire restrictions before calling 911.
