That’s a wrap on the Mickelson Trail Marathon!
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the day a success at the Kirk Trailhead aid station. Teegan and Eric, two runners from Rapid City Central, spent the day helping alongside Kim, Kevin, and Randy. We also had a kind stranger jump in during our busiest stretch while waiting for his wife to run through the station. Deadwood’s favorite, Bri, stopped by to cheer on runners and quickly found herself helping refill snacks and picking up trash.
Despite the heat, the day went incredibly smoothly. It was inspiring to watch over 2000 runners and walkers push themselves mile after mile.
One runner in particular reminded us what determination looks like. The last person through our station was a 78-year-old woman at mile 23 of the marathon. She was tired, but she was determined to finish. We have no doubt that she did.
Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, cheered, and supported today’s event. What an amazing day on the trail.
