That’s a wrap on the Mickelson Trail Marathon!

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the day a success at the Kirk Trailhead aid station. Teegan and Eric, two runners from Rapid City Central, spent the day helping alongside Kim, Kevin, and Randy. We also had a kind stranger jump in during our busiest stretch while waiting for his wife to run through the station. Deadwood’s favorite, Bri, stopped by to cheer on runners and quickly found herself helping refill snacks and picking up trash.

Despite the heat, the day went incredibly smoothly. It was inspiring to watch over 2000 runners and walkers push themselves mile after mile.

One runner in particular reminded us what determination looks like. The last person through our station was a 78-year-old woman at mile 23 of the marathon. She was tired, but she was determined to finish. We have no doubt that she did.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, cheered, and supported today’s event. What an amazing day on the trail.

Trail boots on, ideas flowing. Spent today with part of the Deadwood Trails Committee working on wayfinding in one of the residential trail areas around town. Grateful to be part of projects that help people get outside and explore a little more easily.

Weekend trail update...

As we know, the wind has been a little extra in the hills this year, and a large tree came down across a section of the Presidential Loop. This isn't unusual for our area, but definitely an obstacle! Thanks to a volunteer with a trail saw, the trail was cleared and is once again open and ready to enjoy. We appreciate everyone who helps keep our trails safe and accessible!

Bonus: We even had a little wildlife audience keeping an eye on the progress! 🐿️

Bagging it is a great start. Finishing the job is even better. There is no p**p bag pickup service on our trails. We love dogs. We love trails. Let’s protect both. Thanks for helping keep our trails clean for everyone!🐾.
