This park is in our hometown and we are so proud of this ranger and his quick thinking.
When a routine storm monitoring session at Washington State Park escalated into a confirmed tornado on the ground, Ranger Cord Blumenstock didn’t hesitate.
From warning visitors in the campgrounds to swimmers in the river, Ranger Blumenstock's quick thinking made sure every visitor found safety before the storm hit. But his work didn't stop when the clouds cleared.
With roads blocked by debris and local residents trapped, Ranger Blumenstock grabbed a chainsaw, cleared the path for emergency responders and began door-to-door welfare checks.
We are incredibly proud to honor his bravery and service above self with the Grand Cordon Award. 🎖️
