⏰️Heads up for anyone concerned or curious re the townhomes project coming in at [roughly] the intersection of 8th Ave & SR 415 [nearer Howland]. Originally proposed to council back in 2025 [reference pages from the 2025 application re-shared with this post].

🎗You may recall that last year the Osteen Preservation & Planning Society, our board chairs, our members, and several Osteen residents spoke at a County of Volusia council meeting & advocated for an improved project design to limit density & impact to this sensitive upland/wetland/water body area. Many spoke or emailed against the project.

🤝OPS has worked closely over the last year+ with the local land owner, design engineer, & land use attorney to advocate for as much of what Osteen residents were asking for, recognizing that the land is already entitled for mixed use & transitional residential (medium density) development, according to the OLP &JPA. While we didn't get everything we wanted [and no buyer stepped up to purchase it outright for conservation ] OPS was successfully able to facilitate a reasonable compromise via a statutory developer agreement that retains both the JPA FLU intent, local Osteenian goals & protections, and land owner rights as established in the Osteen Local Plan.

🟧Please be advised an orange PUD zoning change notification sign will be placed on the property some time this July 4 week/weekend.🟧 This is the only applicable way for the county to notify the public for this unique situation that will **stay within the JPA FLU** designation. The parcels are NOT being rezoned. Thats a win!

🤓OPS is pending the final packet for final review prior to the project continuing through the county approval process, and we will post additional details upon review of the final packet including final number of units, increased buffer zones, improved layout, etc.

🌞Good morning Ops members. As most folks know this year is an election year where staying informed on the issues and where candidates sit on a particular topic is an important part of making an informed vote.

🤝Throughout the year, OPS members will be attending various "candidate meet and greet" events for that very reason, and to ensure the candidates understand our mission & goals in preserving & planning Osteen.

🤗We welcome you to join us at one such event the Heart of Florida Federated Republican Women is hosting tonight in Deland.

🗣Multiple candidates running for county council will be in attendance & answering questions.

🍔Afterwards, members will head to a local deland establishment for dinner.

👏Great News Update!👏Thanks to the advocacy of Danny Robins Volusia County Council District 3 , Osteen residents, OPS members, and so many Osteen and land preservation advocates who came forward to call, email, and bear witness on Tues 5/5.

🍾The Volusia County Council voted 🙌unanimously🙌 to purchase River Bend Ranch with Volusia Forever funds, effectively preserving this land from ever being developed, in perpetuity, Forever. ♾️

😍To say our members & community are overjoyed is such an understatement.

🤗Thanks also to the land owner & family who served as a willing seller, county staff, Volusia Forever who sets the criteria, and all partners involved in the negotiations & acquisition.
