With the great weather forecasted for the next week it is time to get ready for the KBRC 2023 ride season . We are looking at options to re starting our monthly meetings again, but also wanted to start planning the weekly Sunday Rides. The rides will start on Sunday April 16 and for the month of April we will start at 9:00 a.m leaving from Shawn’s Coffee Shop , 204 Somonauk St, Sycamore, IL. Ride will be 20 or so miles for the first few weeks until we get our road legs back. As usual we will determine the route at the ride start and try to take advantage of any tail winds coming back. Starting in May we will move back to 8:00 when the weather gets warmer. Speaking of weather, we will cancel if the weather is forecasted to be cold, rainy or otherwise foul. As in the past we will post the ride information on Strava and Facebook as events or posts or both. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the roads this summer!!

Second edition of the 5-7 week forward view of the rides we are planning. The first edition received a lot of positive feedback so will continue. Once again these will include, the regular rides from Shawn's on Sunday mornings, other charity rides that the group will be supporting and any other special events. Your input on any future rides is always appreciated. This will be posted to both Strava and the KBRC page.. Specific events on Strava and Facebook will be created at least one week prior to the event. Note that most if not all of the charity rides have a registration fee and special waiver that needs to be signed. We will try to ride these events as a group and depending on the number of people participating we may have several groups riding the various ride distances..

We will also be planning an Apple Orchard ride in early October on a Saturday morning where we will ride to one of the local apple orchards (Jonamac in Malta, Honey Hill in Waterman or Kuipers in Maple Park). Will leave around 10:00 to make sure Orchard is open and will pick an appropriate meeting spot based on the destination.
The rides pretty much start to wind down in October depending on the weather and we try to start them at 9:00 to avoid the cooler weather. Stay tuned for further details likely on a week by week notice.
As always, feedback on anything related to this is always welcomed and incorporated.

We used to support Ride Like an Egyptian in mid-late August, however this ride has been discontinued. Looking for another local ride in August that we can support - please comment with any suggestions.

Its Beanzie time!!!! The route maps, cue sheets and other registration details are now available on the Beanzie website at https://kishkiwanis.org/bwb-general-info/ A number of us are planning to leave between 6:30 and 7:00 to ride the 71.1 mile route. The routes are set up so that we can all start together and then you can do any of the three distances. If you want to join us, please check the KBRC Strava page and join the event set up there - that way we will know to look for you.

If you are interested in doing a full century the following is a message from Bill Minor:

Biking with Beanzie has three routes this year: 22.0, 43.3, and 71.1 miles respectively. The latter two routes differ in that the 43-mile route goes straight shortly after the Jonamac rest stop, while the 71-mile route turns off to the left for a loop that will take them through the Milan Township water stop and the Jonamac rest stop a second time. After the second pass through Jonamac, they’ll go straight and follow the signs to get back to DeKalb High School.

If anyone wants to do a full century, they can get pretty close by doing this: Shortly after they pass Jonamac the second time, turn left again and follow the 71-mile route again. Then, after passing Jonamac the third time, stay straight and follow the signs back to the high school. That will give them 98.9 miles, by my math. If they really feel the need for that extra 1.1 mile, they can ride around in the parking lot.

If anyone wants to do this, they need to be aware that on the 71-mile route there’s a 20-mile stretch between Jonamac and the next water stop (at Milan), so they should be sure they have plenty of water and/or Gatorade when they leave Jonamac. They also need to be aware that SAG support will end at 3:30.

Please pass this along to the members of KBRC. The weather looks promising, and some of our members may feel ambitious.
