RTW Veteran Center Launches “Liberty 250 Theater” in DeKalb
DeKalb, Illinois — The RTW Veteran Center proudly announces the launch of its new “Liberty 250 Theater,” located within its 3,000-square-foot Culture Center inside the organization’s 5,000-square-foot facility at 842 West Lincoln Highway (Junction Plaza), DeKalb, Illinois.
The name Liberty 250 Theater reflects the powerful historical narrative showcased throughout the center and also recognizes its founding during America’s 250th birthday, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history. The theater serves as both a cultural and educational space honoring the enduring pursuit of liberty.
This theme is deeply connected to the center’s African American Military History Picture Museum, the only museum of its kind in Illinois, featuring more than 100 exhibits honoring African American military service across generations.
At the heart of the museum is the “Wall of Heroes,” which extends into the Wall of Heroes Dining Area, where a curated selection of images highlights the legacy of service and sacrifice. When fully completed, the wall will pose the thought-provoking question:
“Why did African Americans fight in every war—from the Boston Massacre, which helped spark the American Revolution, to the present—while not fully enjoying the freedoms they were defending?”
This question is powerfully explored in the documentary For Love of Liberty, which highlights the courage, patriotism, and enduring commitment of African American service members throughout U.S. history.
