DeKalb County KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed)

DeKalb County KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed) Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed by building developmental assets.

The Developmental Assets are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. The DeKalb County KEYS Initiative is building a community where all adults support children and teenagers so that they thrive. We work with several community partners to influence the personal behavior of adults toward children and teens, strengthen youth-serving programs and impact public policy.

Tip of the Day November 8
Be clear about what’s really funny and what’s not. As kids develop a sense of humor, they’ll push the boundaries. Be clear about what’s inappropriate and why.

DeKALB – TAILS Humane Society is hosting an informational meeting for people interested in mentoring at-risk youth through its Catalyst Program.

The meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the shelter located at 2250 Barber Greene Road in DeKalb. The Catalyst Program pairs adult mentors with teens or pre-teens to help the youth benefit from human-animal bonds, develop a strong work ethic, and create larger-scale change.

Mentors are a positive role model for youth and should have experience working with at-risk youth. Once approved, the mentors will be provided with training and resources for working with the youth in and around the shelter. For more information, call 815-758-2457 ext. 104 or see www.tailshumanesociety.org.
