American Standardbred Adoption Program, Inc.

was founded in 1994 by a small group of dedicated individuals and professionals who saw a need for a placement service for non-racing Standardbreds. This placement service honors and serves the people and horses within the harness racing industry around the country, with special emphasis on Standardbreds in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The American Standardbred Adoption P

rogram also serves as a rescue facility and sanctuary for abandoned, abused, or neglected horses of all breeds, and is listed by the Humane Society of the United States as a humane equine rescue organization. Horses of all other breeds are accepted into placement by ASAP, Inc. A great deal of the American Standardbred Adoption Program's efforts center around educating young people about horsemanship and harness racing. Youth programs focus on youth at risk and youth with disabilities, offering ASAP's facilities on an ongoing basis for community service or schooling involving horsemanship and riding or driving. The American Standardbred Adoption Program seeks only the most qualified homes in the hopes of obtaining permanent placement for each horse in its care. A contract must be signed by potential adopters as a prerequisite to acquiring a horse through our program. An adoption fee is required. ASAP, Inc. is comprised entirely of volunteers that assist in every aspect of horse adoptions, from picking up a horse at the track or stabling facility at no cost to the donor, to office duties, to participation in exhibits, demonstrations, and rescue efforts nationwide.

14 year old Morgan Standardbred cross gelding is looking for a foster or adoptive home.
Hes been Amish his entire life and driven countless miles in the driftless region. He was solely owned by one Amish man then passed to his son. Max was submissive in the Amish herd but has become dominant in his current adoptive home. There is no doubt he is experiencing culture shock in the English world.
A patient gentle yet assertive person in his life would be ideal. We were able to save Max from the kill buyer and really want to see him have a happy life. He is currently near Merrill WI.

It has taken me a week to have the state of mind to post this. We lost one of the greatest horses to ever grace our farm. Tanner lost his battle with a severe heart murmur six days ago. He loved everyone and had his own little fan club. He has left a huge dent in the hearts of all whose lives he touched. The big guy was heading for 30 but didn't quite make it. Tanner we wish you could live forever!!! God's got you now and we will see each other again! You earned your wings in so many ways!!!!! Love always from us. And Rashelle. And John and Mary Ellen. And everyone who loved you.

Beautiful White Ruler is being retrained to saddle and will be available for adoption in the near future. Many thanks to Mary Kate for his great care and retraining!
To think he was days away from being shipped to slaughter in 2025....but those dark days are behind him now and he only has good days looking ahead!
