Are you AI ready?
The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the launch of “Make America AI-Ready,” a free artificial intelligence literacy course that will help American workers learn the basics of AI simply by texting “READY” to 20202.

The course engages participants with daily content that directly aligns with the five foundational areas outlined in the Labor Department’s recently-released AI Literacy Framework.

We encourage you to begin building essential AI awareness. It’s a strong starting point as AI continues to reshape work

MARCH IS DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH.

It might be helpful to think about Developmental Disabilities in terms of the body parts or systems they affect or how they occur. For example:
• Nervous system
These disorders affect how the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system function, which can affect intelligence and learning. These conditions can also cause other issues, such as behavioral disorders, speech or language difficulties, seizures, and trouble with movement. Cerebral palsy,5 Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are examples of IDDs related to problems with the nervous system.
• Sensory system
These disorders affect the senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell) or how the brain processes or interprets information from the senses. Preterm infants and infants exposed to infections, such as cytomegalovirus, may have reduced function with their eyesight and/or hearing. In addition, being touched or held can be difficult for people with ASDs.
• Metabolism
These disorders affect how the body uses food and other materials for energy and growth. For example, how the body breaks down food during digestion is a metabolic process. Problems with these processes can upset the balance of materials available for the body to function properly. Too much of one thing, or too little of another can disrupt overall body and brain functions. Phenylketonuria (PKU) and congenital hypothyroidism are examples of metabolic conditions that can lead to IDDs.
• Degenerative
Individuals with degenerative disorders may seem or be typical at birth and may meet usual developmental milestones for a time, but then they experience disruptions in skills, abilities, and functions because of the condition. In some cases, the disorder may not be detected until the child is an adolescent or adult and starts to show symptoms or lose abilities. Some degenerative disorders result from other conditions, such as untreated problems of metabolism.

March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month - 5 Important Facts You should know
1. When does it begin?
Most developmental disabilities begin before a baby is born, but some can happen after birth because of injury, infection, or other factors. Developmental disabilities occur in people of all racial, ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds. These disabilities include intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (A.D.H.D.), language and learning disorders, vision impairment, and hearing loss.
2. What causes it?
Most developmental disabilities are thought to be caused by a complex mix of factors including genetics, parental health and behaviors (such as smoking and drinking) during pregnancy, birth complications, infections, and exposure to high levels of environmental toxins, such as lead during pregnancy.
3. Over one billion
About 15% of the world's population live with a disability. It is estimated that more than five million Americans have developmental disabilities.
4. The numbers are increasing substantially
More and more people are living with disabilities due to demographic change including population aging and the global increase in chronic health conditions.
5. Inadequate healthcare
Half of the people with disability cannot afford healthcare, compared to a third of people without disabilities.

March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month
In 1987, President Ronald Reagan made a public proclamation that the month of March should be recognized as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to “increase public awareness of the needs and potential of Americans with developmental disabilities.” A lot has changed since then: more people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are living and thriving in their communities, there are more opportunities in education and employment, more protections in health care, the legal system, the list goes on.
However, while there has been a significant change over the past three decades, many challenges remain for people with IDD. Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness about the barriers that people with IDD still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.
Disability awareness signifies educating society regarding disability and how we as individuals can bring about the necessary change. Learning acceptance is the fundamental approach to having an understanding of disability awareness, which can take place anywhere such as at home, school, workplace, and health institutes.

Child Advocates take their time getting to know kids by spending time with them, doing things kids enjoy.

For some kids, its shooting hoops or reading a book. Others prefer a game of Uno or a sticker by number. Some kids want to paint nails or faces. Sometimes its a craft or science project.

Sometimes its the same activity and others its a new adventure every day.

The common thread is a kid with a caring adult who is there to listen, be trusted and come back every day, no matter what.
