Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday!

The Jean Nicolet Chapter, NSDAR, is proud to honor America’s 250th birthday with two large billboards now on display in Green Bay!

Located on Ashland Avenue at the overpass just south of Mason Street and on Hwy 57 north of Green Bay, the billboards commemorate this historic milestone in our nation’s history. The displays will remain up throughout June and July.

We are also celebrating with a special exhibit at the Neville Public Museum highlighting local connections to the American Revolution, featuring artifacts and replicas from our Spender’s Buried collection and participation in local Fourth of July events throughout Green Bay and Door County.

Join us as we commemorate 250 years of American history, heritage, and patriotism!

Annette Barber Cady was born in June 1838. She was the great granddaughter of American Revolutionary War patriot Sergeant John Fay who died at the Battle of Bennington in Vermont.

Annette is one of many examples of what we call a “legacy of service” as one of over a million descendants of American Revolutionary War patriots who have served community and country through their membership in Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

In 1906 Annette became a charter member of the newly formed Jean Nicolet Chapter of DAR which is celebrating our 120th anniversary this year.

Interested in being a member of our chapter as well? Please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Grave marker photo is courtesy of Jade Wagner.

This month we remember Ellen Virginia Gowey Beyer, who joined the Jean Nicolet Chapter at age 20, its youngest charter member. The Chapter was formed 120 years ago this month with Ellen’s aunt, Frances Lawton Dunham its founding Regent. Ellen was the 3x great granddaughter of patriot William Lawton who served the American Revolutionary War as a Surgeon’s Mate from Massachusetts.
Spending her life supporting various charities, Ellen is another example of what we call the Legacy of Service that is found in many of the descendants of patriots of the Revolution. What better time to consider joining DAR than during America’s 250th birthday year. Contact us at [email protected]

This month marks the 120th anniversary of the date the Jean Nicolet
Chapter was founded. Florinda Call Chase (1815-1919) was one of 12 charter members when the chapter was formed. She was the granddaughter of patriot of the American Revolution Ezra Pond Jr and great granddaughter of Patriot Ezra Pond Sr. Today her 3x great granddaughter continues the legacy of service to community and country as a member of our chapter.
This America 250 year is the perfect time to join the more than 100 other descendants of patriots that are in our Jean Nicolet Chapter. Learn more on our website http://www.jncdar.org

On May 3, 1906, twelve determined and qualified women came together to organize the Jean Nicolet Chapter, marking a powerful moment of leadership and vision. With an application for charter—and a $5.00 fee—they reached out to National Headquarters in Washington, D.C., laying the foundation for a legacy that continues to inspire today.

Here’s to 120 years of history, dedication, and impact! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
