IT’S ELECTION DAY!

11/02/2025

Correction: the tax statements our Comanche Tax Office mailed out last month to homeowners were calculated based on the assumption that Props 11 and 13 would pass. In case you didn’t see Tax Assessor/Collector Grace Everhart’s post it follows:

Hello. Comanche County Tax Office used the $140,000 homestead exemption and $60000 over 65 on the current bills that were mailed out. On the back of our statements it reads something to the effect that if the propositions dont pass you will owe $________. This seemed like the most cost effective way to approach it - other than waiting to send statements out until after the results of the November election and that would have hurt those of us that do the half pay by November 30th. Don't forget to vote!

Propositions 11 and 13 if approved will provide big savings for homeowners.

Prop 13 would raise the homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000 for all Texas homeowners.

Prop 11 would raise the exemption for 65 and older and disabled Texans an additional $60,000 for a combined total of $200,000, reducing school taxes for some tax payers to zero.

More good news: if passed propositions 11 and 13 will take effect immediately with a new tax bill being sent to you or your mortgage company.

Tomorrow is the last day to vote early. Only 3% of Texans have voted. That’s not a very good percentage with only today, tomorrow and Tuesday the 4th left to cast your vote. A ballot of only propositions may not seem important but this is our opportunity to have a say in the actions of our legislators. If you haven’t voted please take time to review the 17 propositions and let your vote determine future legislation. And be sure to suppprt the ones that lower ad valorem (property) taxes.

FYI. Propositions 9,10,11,13,& 17 are all related to property tax relief. Propositions 11 & 13 offer tax relief for homeowners. Plan ahead for how you will vote. Early voting is ongoing until 0ctober 31. November 4th is Election Day.

Just a couple things you might want to know. 1. Early voting begins next Monday October 20th. 2. It might be useful to decide how you want to vote on the 17 propositions and make a note of your choices. Most voters don’t know they allowed to take a note into the voting booth. You must not share it with someone else and you must not leave it in the voting booth.

The State election on November 4th has 17 proposed constitutional amendments, but no candidates. Historically when there are no candidates on the ballot voter turnout is low.
Proposition 13 will increase the school tax exemption for homeowners. Let’s be prepared to vote YES for this
proposition and encourage our family and friends to vote for it as well.
Early voting is 10/20 thru 10/24.
Deadline to register to vote is 10/6.
Deadline to apply for a mail in ballot is 10/24.
