As another summer season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize two people who helped make it all possible.

A huge THANK YOU to Rocky and Jordan Higginbotham for umpiring every single game this summer. That’s a commitment that means late nights, hot weather, and a whole lot of patience.

They showed up for our kids every game, kept things moving, and helped make sure our players had a fair and fun season. We know it’s not always an easy job, but they handled it with consistency, fairness, and a great attitude while giving so much of their time to our league.

From all of us at Kemper Baseball & Softball Association, thank you for investing your time in our kids and our community. We appreciate you more than you know, and this season wouldn’t have been the same without you! 💙🥎⚾

🏆 UNDEFEATED LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What a season for the Narkeeta Timber Bombers! These girls finished the year undefeated and brought home the league championship, and we couldn't be more proud of every single one of them.

This season was about so much more than wins. We watched this team grow in confidence, encourage one another, work hard, and make memories they'll never forget. Every player contributed, every player improved, and every player had a hand in making this such a special group to coach and cheer for. We had an absolute blast with these girls all summer, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for each of them.

A special congratulations goes to Ruby Kate Calvert, who was presented the game ball after last night's championship game by umpire Mr. Rocky.

Ruby Kate recently turned 9 and competed all season in a 9–12-year-old league. That takes courage all by itself. Throughout the season, we watched her confidence grow, and by the final game she stepped into the batter's box with confidence and put together a great at-bat. Seeing her come out of her shell and believe in herself was one of our favorite moments of the year. We are so proud of her perseverance and can't wait to watch her continue to grow.

Congratulations again to our Bombers on an incredible season! 💣💙🖤

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: We are now being told there is no meeting this Friday. You can make plans to attend the BOS meeting on Monday, June 15th.

UPDATE: We are being told the Board of Supervisors are gathering for an unofficial meeting at 9:00 this Friday morning and that they will be discussing this matter. Please plan to attend if you are able, or reach out to your supervisor beforehand to make your stance known! While this is encouraging to hear, we cannot stop until BASES ARE IN THE GROUND! 💙💚

Our kids deserve better. We want to play!

At the very least, our children deserve a field tarp to help protect the field we have. But let's be clear—that is the bare minimum. Our county needs at least two new ball fields with proper equipment, regular maintenance, and the resources necessary to support the children who participate in youth sports each year.

The Kemper County Baseball & Softball Association and its volunteers work tirelessly to provide opportunities for our children, but we continue to be denied support for basic improvements that would help protect our fields and reduce unnecessary cancellations.

We are asking parents, grandparents, and supporters of youth sports to contact your county supervisors and ask:

What is the plan for our county ball fields?

Our children deserve facilities that are cared for and invested in. They deserve leaders who recognize the value of youth sports and are willing to support the volunteers who work so hard to make them possible.

We can do better. We must do better.

The future of youth sports in Kemper County depends on more than volunteers. It requires community support and leadership willing to invest in our kids.

Please contact your supervisor, share this post and make your voice heard.

Kemper Baseball & Softball is in need of coaches for tee ball, coach pitch, and little league. We are ready to get these kids on the field and start practices ASAP—but we can’t do that without volunteers stepping up to coach.

These kids are excited. They’re signed up. They’re ready. Now we just need some adults willing to show up for them.

You don’t have to be a professional—just willing to help, encourage, and be present.

If you can help coach (or even assist), please comment below, message us, or reach out to Ben McDade, Dave Waters, or Kasey Barnes ASAP so we can get this season started.

It’s almost the BEST time of the year! ⚾🥎

Baseball and softball season is right around the corner, and we could not be more excited to get our DeKalb teams back on the field.

Registration forms will be sent home through the schools soon — but if you’re ready now, there will be a printable registration form in the comments that can be turned in to your child’s school or the DeKalb Town Hall.

We are also currently looking for coaches for all age groups for our DeKalb teams. This is a volunteer-led league, and it only happens because members of our community step up and give their time for the kids in our county. If you’ve ever thought about coaching, now is the time. Our players need leaders, mentors, and role models in their corner.
