📚 Putting Books in the Hands of Kids Around the World!
DeForest Rotary Club members rolled up their sleeves this week to help unload two trailers full of books donated by the DeForest Area School District!

These books are headed overseas as part of Books for the World, a global literacy project that ships books from the United States to children in places where educational resources are hard to come by. Every box unloaded means more kids will have access to books that can open doors to learning and opportunity.

Thank you to the DeForest Area School District for the generous donation, and to David, Bobbi Jo, Blake, Jacob and Debbie, as well as volunteers from the Madison Breakfast Rotary Club, who pitched in to make this happen. It's a great example of how a little teamwork can make a big difference across the globe! 🌍📖

On July 1, Mary Schultz, Realtor - Century 21 Affiliated, passed the gavel to Mariah Erickson, officially welcoming her as our new DeForest Area Rotary Club President!

A huge thank you to Mary for her dedication and leadership over the past year -- her hard work and commitment to Rotary's mission made a real difference for our club and community.

And congratulations to Mariah as she steps into this new role! We're excited for the year ahead and all the ways our club will continue to serve our community.

Thanks to Ed Halvarson for bringing Jennifer Garrett, Deputy Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS), to speak at our recent meeting!
Jennifer gave us an inside look at how Wisconsin's licensing boards work — from the professions they regulate to the role DSPS plays in keeping our communities safe. We learned about the many regulatory boards across the state and how community members can get involved in this important work.

Thanks again to Jennifer for sharing her expertise, and to Ed for arranging such an informative visit. This is what Rotary is all about — learning, connecting, and staying engaged with the people and institutions that shape our communities!

They shared the story behind how the brewery got its start, what makes the Young Blood experience truly one-of-a-kind, and the warm welcome they've received from their new DeForest location.

What a fascinating program at our June 10 meeting!

We were honored to welcome Jennifer Bias, State Public Defender with the Wisconsin State Public Defender's Office, along with Harm Venhuizen, Government and Public Affairs Specialist with the same office.

Jennifer gave our members an insightful look into the critical work of the WI State Public Defender -- ensuring that every person, regardless of their ability to pay, has access to quality legal representation. It's a cornerstone of our justice system, and it was eye-opening to hear firsthand about the importance of that mission. On May 20th, Rotarian Travis Banegas brought a representative from Lil Tyke's Rescue and Sanctuary to speak to us about this remarkable non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming miniature horses in need. They also provide a permanent, loving sanctuary for those with special needs.

Lil Tyke's does extraordinary work in our region and we appreciated learning about their mission, the animals they serve, and how our community can support their efforts.

Thank you to Michael Kloss, Governor of Rotary District 6250 for attending our meeting last week. He presented our Rotary Club President, Mary Schultz, with two Rotary International recognitions.

Then, he updated us on all the exciting things happening in District 6250 — from Polio Plus fundraising (thanks for the shoutout! 🙌) and foundation grants supporting community projects, to scholarships, new partnerships, and membership growth.

And we heard that there's going to be a Wisconsin Rotary license plate is coming soon!
