Each year on May 18th, Haitian Flag Day is celebrated as a national holiday in Haiti, marking the country’s liberation from French rule. On this historic day in 1803, the Haitian flag was raised for the first time, signaling the birth of the nation’s first republic. It serves as a powerful symbol of patriotism and unity, embodying the spirit of resilience and cultural heritage of the Haitian people. This march was also to highlight Mary McLeod Bethune, the founder of our great university and a woman who was instrumental in fighting for the rights of the African-American community!
