On Saturday, April 11 our Men of Tomorrow students participated in a Rights of Passage workshop. The guest speaker was Dr. Ronald Jackson who spoke about the transition from adolescence into becoming a young man and developing their self image. He also provided historical context on how the current world image of the Black male was cultivated in this country.
Following the workshop, to mimic the traditional African rites of passage, the young men participated in a zip line adventure, which tested their courage and willingness to try something new and challenging and to push themselves to a new sense of accomplishment.
The Men of Tomorrow Rites of Passage ceremony will be held April 25 at The Palmetto Club in Daytona Beach. The event will be a celebration of where our MOT participants are heading in life and to remind them that their community supports them along the way.
