SEPTEMBER 5th
The King is in the Room!
Great song and great thought! And it is SO TRUE! How many times in the Word of God does it say that He is with us always?! That He will never leave us?! -Many! Here is one example:
Matthew 28:20b …And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
So He IS in the room!!
If we could just get that to stick in our heads it would change us. For instance, if we remembered that He is in the room with us we might behave differently, speak differently, and see differently. We would see others through His eyes if we remembered that He is present. We would act differently both when we are alone and when we are with others. We would watch our tongues! We would treat others differently but we would also treat ourselves differently…
In His presence we have a different mindset. In His presence we connect with the Truth, the Truth about ourselves, the Truth about others, the Truth about our situation/circumstances. It is no coincidence that Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth…
John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
John 15:26 But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
He will be IN us and He will guide us in to all Truth. SO, not only is He in the room, but He is also in US! This means that even our thoughts are not private. If we would just remember that He is IN us, we would be different all the way around.
But we don’t, we are all memory impaired. For some crazy reason we think we can hide from God and get away with our sin.
Psalm 139:7-10 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
We think that we have our own rights and privacy. Our own rights and privacy means that we give up our spot safe in His presence. If we want His salvation and His presence and His blessings and His perfect will and His protection, etc, etc, etc. Then we give up our own desires. His way is better, His plan is better, we should opt for that, not our own way. The Holy Spirit lives IN us, so we have to take care of this body because it is His temple, His dwelling place.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
As we go about our day today, let’s remember The King is in the Room! The room in our hearts!
Lord, forgive me for thinking that I can hide anything from you. Help me to be aware of your presence 24/7. Help me to take better care of myself for you. Help me to remember that any sacrifices that I make in my life are an act of worship and that denying myself and surrendering daily to you is part of being your disciple. Thank you for your plan, your will, your love for me. Thank you that you chose to live in me and help me to walk with that in mind. Show me the Truth in my life, in me, and in others. Thank you for being Truth!

SEPTEMBER 4th
1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
It is easy to get ourselves worked up, or barely push our anxiety down below the level of a roar, or even go through our day just on edge. But when we give Him all of our anxiety, things inside our minds/hearts change.
Notice it says CAST, it doesn’t say SHARE. The word in the original Greek is ἐπιρίψαντες (epiripsantes) and it means to THROW!
Strong’s Greek 1977 highlights a decisive, intentional act of shifting a burden from one place to another—figuratively or literally—so that the object no longer rests on the original bearer.
Too often we keep hold of a corner of it and just share it with Him, OR, we give Him just a corner and we keep a tight grip on the rest. He wants us to THROW our cares, our anxiety, our stress, our worry on HIM! We can’t throw and keep holding on, that doesn’t work.
It is easier to throw it all on Him when we remember who He is. When we remember that He the Creator and He is able to handle everything that could come at us. No matter the circumstances, He is trustworthy to handle us because He loves us!
Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
You have heard the phrase “Let go and let God”? Well that applies here. Even in situations that we actually have no control, we can’t seem to let go in our minds and we carry it through our day.
What if right now you ask the Lord to help you throw it on Him and leave it in His hands?
What would happen? God doesn’t want worry and anxiety for us, that isn’t healthy. He wants peace for us.
So what does the Word of God say about it?
This takes us back to Philippians 4 again…
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The peace of God, that doesn’t even make sense in the circumstances, will guard your heart and mind. In the middle of the storm when you shouldn’t even have peace, you will have it.
Throw your anxiety in God’s lap and start to thank Him for who He is and all He has done.
Lord thank you for wanting to take my anxiety and concerns from me. Help me to recognize when I am trying to carry it alone and teach me how to throw it all to you. Help me to keep my eyes on You instead of my circumstances. Help me to remember that You are my strength and my help and I have no reason to fear when I consider that. Thank you for loving me so much Jesus.

Fallen Tree Triggers 3 Calls for Dayton Fire in 4 Minutes

Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, Dayton firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Palmer Ln for a report of downed power lines and a power outage.

Just before firefighters arrived, a second 911 call came in from the 800 block of Palmer Ln reporting a garage fire. The first fire unit arrived minutes later and found flames inside the garage, with smoke filling the home.

Downed power lines were blocking access to the residence, so firefighters requested that PGE respond and confirm the lines were de-energized before crews attacked the fire. A local PGE employee arrived within minutes and isolated the power, allowing firefighters to safely begin operations.

The fire was quickly brought under control and remained contained to the garage. The living portion of the home sustained minor smoke damage.

A resident was home when the fire started and reported the blaze. He was able to safely evacuate and remove his pets before firefighters arrived.

Dayton Fire responded with three apparatus and was assisted at the scene by Amity Fire District, Lafayette Fire Department, Dundee Fire District, PGE and YCOM-911.

Adding to the busy response, Amity and McMinnville firefighters were also dispatched to a medical call in Dayton while crews were responding to the house fire.

The incident resulted in three emergency calls involving Dayton-area fire crews within about four minutes, all stemming from the same downed tree and power-line incident.

SEPTEMBER 3rd
Are you feeling stale today? Stagnate in your relationship with the Lord? Ask Him to stir you up! There is a song that Keith Green wrote decades ago that resonates with me today. Here are a couple of the verses:
Oh Lord, You’re beautiful.
Your face is all I seek.
When Your eyes, are on this child,
Your grace abounds to me.

Oh Lord, please light the fire,
That once burned bright and clean.
Replace the lamp of my first Love
That burns with holy fear.

Ask Him to light your fire for Him, to restore your first love for Him, to wake you up and shine on you! This is our prayer Holy Spirit, we need your touch today!

Ephesians 5:14-16 This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

2 Timothy 1:6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Revelation 2:3-4 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.

Revelation 3:2-3 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Ask the Spirit to make His wind blow through you today! Ask Him for fresh wind, fresh fire today! This isn’t just another day…

Let the King of Glory into your day today!
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, who with unveiled faces reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Holy Spirit refresh me today. I don’t want to be complacent, or lazy. I want you to light me up for you! I give you permission to stir my heart today with fresh passion for you! I want to be so overflowing with you today that others will see your light and be touched! Thank you for being willing to stir me anew today!

SEPTEMBER 2nd
Don’t feel like God is near you? Feel like He is distant today? Notice I said FEEL alone. You are not alone, but if you FEEL alone then you might want to examine these areas.
The first thing we have to do is to examine ourselves. Here are 3 of the things that keep us from feeling close to the Lord…
-Pride
-Sin
-The enemy’s oppression
I would add one more: Biochemical/hormonal changes in our body that our brain misinterprets as negative emotions. This one can eliminated quickly when you use your mind to evaluate whether you really have a reason to feel down or alone. Our brain does not base things on reality, it interprets signals based on past experiences or potential dangers, so we have to use our mind to determine whether they are legitimate or not. And we can ask God for help with that too.
Psalm 51:10-12 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
So let’s deal with the first 3.
Pride:
1 Peter 5:5b-6 All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
We have to examine ourselves to see if there is any pride in us. Sometimes when we are prideful we can’t see it, so it is best just to hit our knees and humble ourselves before Him, acknowledging that we NEED Him and asking for forgiveness for our attitudes of self-sufficiency.
Sin:
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 41:4 I said, “Have mercy on me, Lord; heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
We are really good at ignoring conviction or numbing ourselves to guilt so that we can keep on going. We all have sins that we need to confess and repent of every single day, so let’s not neglect this one.
Enemy’s oppression:
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
Ps 31:4-5 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.
Sometimes the enemy is just bombarding us with whatever he can to make us feel alone, depressed, anxious or discouraged and hopeless. We must use discernment to recognize his attacks. When that is the case, we have a refuge in Jesus.
Finally, worship is the next step. God inhabits the praises of His people, He leans toward praise, and the enemy hates it, he flees!
Lord, thank you that you are near to me even when I don’t feel it. When I don’t feel near to you help me to identify the reason why and remedy it immediately. Help me to recognize the things in my life that keep me from feeling close you to you and help me to create an environment that does not grieve you Holy Spirit. Thank you for patiently teaching me Lord.

SEPTEMBER 1st
Today let us lift of a sacrifice of praise to the Lord God, King of kings and Lord of lords!
Psalm 71:8,16,23 My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. V16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. V23 My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered.
Ps 40:5 Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.
Psalm 72:18 Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.
Psalm 74:16-17 The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.
Psalm 66:16 Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.
Psalm 41:12 Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
Psalm 73:28 But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.
What a great thought today! It is good to be near God. What a gift God has given us to be able to be near Him! Despite our imperfection, He did not isolate Himself far away on a throne somewhere. He made a way for us to be close to Him. He sacrificed Himself so that we would have the privilege of nearness. Not just in Heaven someday, but right here, right now!!
How sweet it is that we NEVER have to be alone, ever! If we are feeling alone, we need only to reach out to the One who loves us more than anyone in the world ever can.
Psalm 73:23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.
Psalm 75:1 We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Mighty Adonai, thank you for being near to me. Thank you for choosing to make me someone that you want to keep close to you. I praise you for all that you have done and who you are! Help me to remember that You hold me close every moment of every day and help me not to turn my back on you. Thank you for choosing to make it so that you live IN me instead of loving me from afar.

AUGUST 31st
Another verse that mentions our mind…
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Sound mind. Interestingly this phrase “sound mind” in the original Greek is much deeper than we might think in English.
σωφρονισμοῦ (sōphronismou) means sound mind, wise discretion, discipline, self-control, moderation, disciplined thinking, properly, flowing with sensible behavior, sound reasoning, Scripture based reasoning rather than impulse or intimidation.
Wow! That colors it in a little more, doesn’t it!
We can glean a lot from looking at Strong’s Concordance in this matter. Some excellent points made include:
Disciplined thought fuels effective communion with God.
The Spirit nurtures a disciplined mind.
In spiritual warfare language (Ephesians 6:10-18), the believer’s “helmet of salvation” protects the mind; Strong’s describes the functional outworking of that protection—steadfast mental composure when fiery darts fly.
A sound mind bring about measured speech, orderly priorities, emotional stability that rests on God’s sovereignty, and moral consistency when no human eye observes.
Measured speech: James 1:19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry
Orderly priorities: Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Emotional stability that rests on God’s sovereignty: Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Moral consistency when no human eye observes: Psalm 139:1–3 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
The life of a Christ follower consists of “a Spirit-wrought equilibrium that liberates believers from fear, empowers loving action, and sustains persevering witness. As the church embraces this gift, it reflects the disciplined, fearless mind of Christ amid an unsettled world.” (Strong’s Concordance)
Important takeaway: In order to have a sound mind, we must believe that it is possible for us to have a sound mind.
Jesus, thank you for making it possible for me to have a sound mind. Help me to give up my old way of thinking in exchange for the sound mind that you promised in Your Word. Holy Spirit, when the fiery darts are flying, help me to remember that I have a sound mind. Help me to be transformed by the renewing of my mind so that I can walk in it.

Our Combined Youth from Freedom House Dayton Church, Dayton Christian Church, and Dayton First Baptist Church help us understand that Truth is not based on opinion; it is absolute and comes from God. God’s Word is truth, Jesus is the Truth, and the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. Truth matters because it sets us free, helps us know right from wrong, and gives us direction for life. But knowing the truth is not enough—we must follow it. God has given us the complete directions through His Word, and we should know the Truth and follow it.

AUGUST 30th
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
These verses all give us a directive, an action that we are to take with regard to our minds. SO, although the Holy Spirit is responsible to sanctify us (when we surrender completely to Him), it seems that our minds are part of the responsibility we have. We have a responsibility to obey Him. He tells us to renew our mind, set our mind on heavenly things, and love Him with ALL of our mind. That means that there is not to be a part of our mind that is reserved for private thoughts (as if He wasn’t aware of them anyway) or for revenge or bitterness or unforgiveness or any other thing that doesn’t line up with His Word and Spirit. “But I can’t help it!” Well yes, you might need help with it, but these verses clearly give us the directive to do it so we need to change our mindset from “I can’t” to “How can I?” God does not give us directions that we can’t obey with His help.
Remember medical science has proven now that we can change our brains. We have already talked about how science has shown that prayer and worship change our brain structure. When we pray and worship we engage our minds in that. Our minds are not our brains, we use our minds to change our brains.
Our minds need to be renewed. Our minds need to focus on Jesus and His will, etc. Our minds need to Love God -completely. But How? Ask Him for Help. Ask Him to show you how. THAT is a prayer that we will definitely see the answer to if we listen and watch for it! As we do these things our brains will change structure.
Did it strike you as odd that our minds are included in all of these verses? (There are more.) Scripture makes it clear, if we pay attention to it, that we are not just spiritual, we are physical as well. We have to stop segregating ourselves so much and realize that the spiritual and physical really are interconnected. That is the way God made us, so He addresses the physical as well as the spiritual in His Word.
To obey all of these directives we have to surrender. We have to surrender ourselves, all of us…our will, our thought patterns, our desires, spiritually and physically. When we do that we can finally have a healthy mind and we will be able to discern God’s will. When we are still feeling selfish, we skew our view of God’s will with our will. We might even purposely try to blend them together to form some kind of hybrid will/plan. But that falls so short.
To get the best that God has for us we have to surrender. Maybe that is why Romans 12:1 is grouped together will verse 2.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
In order to have God’s perfect will for our lives we have to surrender ourselves to Him and it can be considered an act of worship.
Lord thank you for making change possible. I don’t really know completely how to change my mind, will you show me please? I do want to renew my mind and focus my mind on you and I do want to love you with ALL of my mind. Help me to do this Jesus. Holy Spirit lead me in this journey please.
