🌿 Announcing the 2025 Criswell Davis Scholarship Recipients 🌿

TFF is proud to name Diego Ortiz Cortes (Fashion Institute of Technology) and Tara Giblin (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) as the recipients of the 2025 Criswell Davis Scholarship, an award that honors the legacy of biophilic design advocate Criswell Davis.

This annual scholarship supports future leaders in architecture and interior design who share Criswell’s passion for natural materials, sustainable thinking, and human-centered design.

Diego impressed us with his organic, deeply intentional approach to interior design, an approach that echoes the very principles Criswell championed.

Tara stood out for her intuitive understanding of biophilic design and her genuine drive to use architecture to connect people with nature.

Both students were selected personally by Criswell’s family, a testament to how strongly their values align with his. We believe Diego and Tara will help shape a future where natural materials like American hardwoods are at the core of sustainable, restorative spaces.

We couldn’t be prouder to have partnered with the National Hardwood Lumber Association to create this series of videos. We filmed on-location at the U.S. Forest Service Forest Products Research Laboratory in Madison, WI, and much of the nature footage was filmed right here in Ohio. The videos explore topics like biophilic design, carbon storage, responsible forest management.

Check out the NHLA YouTube channel to dive into all the videos—let’s keep sharing the power and sustainability of hardwoods!

TFF is Proud to Announce the Inaugural Recipient of the Criswell Davis Scholarship! Caroline Peloquin is a senior at Marymount University in Arlington, VA, majoring in Architecture and minoring in Psychology. She has been awarded the inaugural Criswell Davis Scholarship for $1,500, proudly presented by the Timber & Forestry Foundation (TFF). The scholarship was funded this year and for years to come by donations and contributions from the hardwoods industry and friends and family of Criswell Davis. Caroline was nominated for this scholarship through a letter of recommendation from Moira Gannon Denson, ASID, IDEC, IIDA, LEED AP, Associate Professor of Interior Design and Interim Program Coordinator at the School of Design + Art at Marymount University.

Caroline was selected for the Criswell Davis Scholarship by Criswell's family due to her exceptional approach to design, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to creating spaces that prioritize the well-being of their users. Her ability to thoughtfully integrate biophilic design principles into her work demonstrates a deep understanding of the connection between nature and human environments. TFF is confident that Caroline will make significant contributions to the field of biophilic design in architecture and will play an important role in shaping sustainable, user-centered architectural spaces in the years to come.

Congratulations, Caroline!
